"Hammer coral" Lets See Them!

Here is an old one that I lost.

Very nice J.R.L.

Here is mine three years ago. It was much rounder then. This started out as three heads I bought at a local meeting.

Here it is now. It is 13 inches across and about 6 years old. This picture isn't the greatest, sorry.

Finally here is a side view taken with an Olympus Stylus 850SW waterproof camera. A couple of years ago I went on vacation and when I came back my calcium reactor had blocked up and my KH was at 17. This coral was almost dead, and a large section had indeed died. It has recovered nicely now and you can see the new growth that is filling in.

It all depends on what stores you go to around here.

Personlly, I've never paid more than $40 for any of my corals that are in my tank. But I think that has more to do with getting to know the people at your LFS, and a bit of mascara and a bit of flirting, that's how you get the good prices. LOL

There are always going to be places that post high prices, and there are always going to be people who don't know any better, and will go ahead and pay those prices without thinking about it.

Just keep your wits about you, and if you know that a coral is priced way to high, than don't be afraid to say so to the store owner or employee. Usually, if they find out that you are knowledgable about the coral, and you know what you are talking about, they will drop the price.

Sometimes that price is there to get the dumbies to pay for it, just because it's pretty.

i dont see how can a piece coral can sell less than 40.
and if you told your LFS the price too high and they drops the price, i dont think you should go back.

You can even get 3 for $100 here.....but you get what you paid for in most cases....

Hammers usually sell starting at $10-$15 in the stores around here. I bargin hunt too. The more you buy, the bigger the discount. Discounts are also good on damaged corals and ones that have been in the store awhile.

Back to the actual thread: SWEET PICS! I especially like the moon shaped tips.

Why can't a coral sell less than $40 ?

There are quite a few stores in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) and most of them sell all thier corals for $40, across the board, unles it's a really nice piece of SPS, or some rare morph acan.

Other than that, it's always $40.

I don't see why I can't go back to the LFS if they drop thier prices for me. Should that make me WANT to go back, getting something cheaper than what it's advertised for?

I know all my LFS owners and eployees, and they've come to know me as well, so if they want me to come back and spend money in thier stores, then they will accomodate me.

If not, then they know that I can drive down the street and pay $40 for the same coral !

well, corals average about $10-15 before shipping. shipping cost about $10-15 per coral, you added up the die off... you are already at $40. maybe different in canada.
if they offer discount to you, good for you, but if they dont knwo what they were selling....then that will be different story.
