Hammer, Frogspawn, and Torch corals Growth!!

Mine was one small polyp about 4 years ago. Now it's about 10 inches round.

It's been under MH 150w 20K lighting the whole time I've had it. NSW parameters for the most part. I don't dose anything and I never feed it.

I realize I am somewhat lucky with hammers and frogspawn when it comes to growing them. My main reef tanks Cal-500+, Alk-9.5, Mag-1400+, SG-1.025, Temp-78-79F.

My main tank

Shot from the mancave..........lol. Its really the library.

Same tank from my living room.

Very nice IAShane! And Trini Diver with those numbers no wonder why they grow like weeds I'm still trying to figure out if feeding is necessary or not some think so but some think not I guess it depends upon lighting.

my main tank I feed like crazy. My fish get food mostly 10 times per day when I am home. spectrum Pellets, freeze dried plankton, krill and Mysis. I usually take off my skimmer and crush the food so all the juices are distributed in the water column. So actually all my corals get broadcast fed every day. I also run bio-pellets 24/7

Have not sold much as yet because I am trying to grow them out. My LFS imports them out of Miami and we pay a lot for 90% of corals here in Trinidad. A frogspawn or hammer with 3-5 heads usually sells for $115-130 US. So I am actually growing them out and sell him back. That way he doesn't have to import them and pay the high costs. He actually bought in about US-20K in corals two wks before Christmas and nearly all were sold out. For a country this small we have a lot of reefers.

where I live people sell them for only 7$ US a head

wow.........Looking for some others when I get back. Different colors.
Actually within the next few wks I should have my 2 frag tanks up and running. 92 x 30 x 12. Already bought the heatsinks, drivers and led's from stevesleds.com and heatsinks from another company. Want to do it on a larger scale. More doing the leathers, duncans, frogspawns, hammers and torches. That's what has the faster turnover when grown large. Most of his clients lately are 8 & 10ft tanks

Chamjack, the 3 corals on the upper left hand side are nice but are all of them frogspawn? Another question is the basketball size hammer, do you get problems with it rounding out and the lower ones get issues with getting light?????

Two are frogspawn. The center one is a hammer broken off from the basketball sized one.

The basketball hammer is right at the tipping point for shading out its lower branches. I've been debating this lately on how I can keep the shape of it without destroying it because of its size. I am prob going to end up breaking it in half and letting it grow all over again. My LFS trades me frozen food packs for my cut off pieces so I wont feel too bad about doing it....lol. I would feel better if I was able to get money for them like you do  Your frags look good. Nice an healthy looking with a little mass to them.

Here's another pic of them a little closer....

that looks sweet man. That's how I am attempting to grow them out. Even the ones I am going put back into my tank to start back growing. Hoping I can get different colors now. Is it a six foot tank?

Wow ChamJack Why do you only get food from your lfs?? Where i live in RI at the lfs you can get 25$ for two heads of frog hammer or torch. Like I said earlier private sellers sell for 7$ a head but they sell to fish stores for more haha. Look around you can get some money

Yep, six foot but only 18" wide. I wish i bought a 210 gal when I was looking at tanks. That would have given me an extra 6" in width to play with. Stupid me, at the time the wife and I thought that would be too wide. I regret it now :headwally: Here is why. A shot of the frogspawn through the left side of the tank.

That would really be sweet getting some $$$ like that. If I could get that, my tank would only have a frag of hammer and frogspawn! I would be chopping it all up for some Kessil LEDS. :lol2::lol2:

chamjack, whats your livestock....... I see a hippo, a sailfin tang and some bangais. and how do you feed the cyclopeeze. Do you think it works good on the corals growth and health? how much 2 part do you dose by the way

I have a Coral Beauty and Maroon Clownfish in there too. Misc shrimp and hermits round out the list. I have an arrow crap that lives on top of that frogspawn. He loves perching up there. I use the frozen cubes of cyclopeeze every now and then. I usually mix it in with a frozen cube that I am feeding the fish with. I let the pumps move it around after the fish are done and get it into the skimmer. I'm like you. My fish eat well. I'm certain all the residual food is helping the corals. Not any one in particular though.

I run my dosing off of my Apex. My dosers put out 1.1 ml a min. I run Calc for 4 min 40 sec 9 times a day currently and Alk for 4 min also at 9 separate times a day. I just tweak the times on the program when I test the water if I need a little more or less. It takes about 6 months for my Calc and Alk mix containers to empty at the above dosing. My tank params are usually Ca 400, Alk 10.2, Mag 1350, PH 7.9-8.1, Temp 79.

I was just checking out your album. You have a very nice looking tank! I love the powder brown tang you have. I always wanted one of them. I wish I could take some nice pics. All mine are iPhone pics and they really don't do well with the true colors. I can't figure it out:furious:

Heres a pic of some cyclopeeze hanging in the water for the fish.

Hope I'm not derailing your thread Tanked_life:thumbsup:

Nice pic again man............. Yeah tanked_life, sorry for spamming your thread.
I run 2 micro dosers that do my alk and cal. 16mls each, 6 times daily at different intervals in my sump. When I get home tomorrow, I want to hook up the 3rd doser to do my Amino acids. I have also been running bio-pellets 24/7 at an early stage of my set up. My tank has been up 29-30mths now. All my corals have been started as frags.

Haha don't worry about it! I enjoy seeing and reading once again It helps with the research I am trying to cultivate! thats why I posted this thread haha keep it up
