Hammer next to acro??

Is it safe to have a hammer next to a acro?

I have a hammer growing near my acros. The Acros have changed the direction of their growth to avoid it without ever even touching. I'm sure if they came in contact the hammer would win-- it even gives me burns on uncalloused skin like the inside of my arm.
