Hammer placement

What types of corals are Hammers more prone to sting? Which are better corals to put in their general areas?

i usually always put hammers low either on the bottom of the glass or in sand, branching hammer's can be placed on up higher on liverock low to mid level, the anchor type i always place as low as i can, i use leds and lps can get burned easily under high light.

They can be next to Frogspawn fine. Everything else, pretty much hates them or they hate it. As far as placement on the tank, mine prefer mid tank with indirect alternating flow.
Good luck

I agree on the lighting and placement with the others.

As far as what you can put them next to: Frogspawn, torch's and other hammers.

WAIT... No torches. They are of the same family, but a torch will kill your hammers and frogspawn in a few hours. Some people have had luck with keeping them close or even together for a few weeks, but in most cases, the torch will kill the hammer or frogspawn.

Trust me.

Not true! Read these, they are all the same family Euphyllia and are ok to keep together, yes even touching.

Ummmm......

Your links are not saying that at all. Sometimes they are fine together, other times, the torch wins. If they sting each other, just move them apart.

ummmm... sorry man. Not true. Very few have had luck with torches being close to anything else. You are welcomed to try it for yourself and learn the painful lesson, but my advise still stands.

Torches should not be close to anything else.

Well there is a thread here now on RC that says apparently you can't put a torch next to a torch. Again I've heard that people do keep the torch next to both a frogspawn and a hammer. I probably won't do this but have read it. So apparently a torch needs to be isolated even from another of it's kind.

Before we go to far Euphyllia is a genus not a family, which means each species is closely related from an evolutionary standpoint. However, since they are different species the risk is still there. Frogspawn and hammers seem to do fine next to each other but my experience has been they will choke out Indonesian torches and get nuked by Australian torches (Notice I said my experience).

Something I noticed was not mentioned is that these corals are particularly sensitive to flow as well. They tend to prefer moderate, indirect flow and can be easily damaged if directly placed in front of a powerhead or return. Too low flow and they seem to grow slower and lose coloration (again just my experience). As much as you might want to choose where coral goes often they dictate their placement, and this is particularly true of the genus Euphyllia

+10 on a torch hurting a hammer or a frogspawn.. What i don't know is if a duncan can be next to a hammer/frogspawn.

This is a very good question. I have never tried to bring my Ducan close to my Hammers or Frogspawn, but something tells me that it may not be safe. I'm looking forward to someone else experience. I think the combination would look cool.
