hammer wall

i have a hammer wall that was a good size until it became infected and lost most of its polyps, there is a lot of empty skeleton, whats left of the coral seems to be healthy, i keep a close eye on it.

will any polyps grow back onthe old skeleton or should i just cut that off with something? and try and get whats left to grow new? will post a current pic tomorrow



all that is left is about an inch and a half or so on the end.

I the coral will probably not re-inhabit the old skeleton but it will just grow a new one on top of the old one.

You can cut it off carefully, so you give it space to regrow, it's better not to cut through the live part, it could lead to infections. But it won't regenerate the damaged part, it will build a new skeleton over/near it.

thats why people go more on branching hammers they are easier to take care.if you get in count that some vendor will cut of and sold a frag

I have a wall hammer that looked great for 9 months & slowly went downhill. It's about half the size it was when I bought it. I was recently told they are hard to keep. I'll never buy another one again. My branching hammer on the other hand is growing like a weed & looks great.

IMO, cut it but about 1-2 inches away from live part, leave a bit to prevent infections. Unless you don't care, it may just look ugly.

Thats why i like the branching hammers, thy grow very fast and i have never had a problem with any death in mine. I did have a problem with a fox though.
