Hanna instruments testers?

Hey everyone,

Okay, I'm sick of it. I can't stand my pH tests anymore. First, I don't know if I'm even reading the colors right, and secondly, it can change by as much as .4 depending whether I look at them under fluorescent or incandescent light! So, I've got to get a pH meter, or I fear I might not notice if something bad is about to happen (even though everything I have right now is alive).

I was going to get a generic, always-on pH testing meter for like $90. However, I saw these Hanna instruments testers that are digital and seem to be designed to be used on a periodic basis. Some of the more expensive models (~$120) also test conductivity and TDS, which is something I'm going to have to get anyway to check my RO/DI water soon, so I might as well spend the extra $30 and get it all in one unit.

Does anyone have any experience with these units? They're listed on Foster and Smith (though I'm pretty sure I can't link to them) if you want to look. Should I stick with a Pinpoint pH meter that's always in, or just get this?

Thanks. :)

Oh, great! :D Can you tell me which of the solutions I need to get? I was just going to buy pH 4.01, pH 7.01, and the storage solution. Do I really need the cleaning solution? And, how much should I buy of the pH solution? It said something about cleaning and recalibrating it once a month, but...?

I know nothing about the digital meters, but I hear 7/10 is pretty popular.

Looking into getting one myself - soon.

The cleaning solution is basically an acid to clean the probe. You might be able to get away with vineagar but it last a really long time so I got it. The I only use mine for checking ph and temp of my newly mixed water. I also use it to check temp of my frag tank at frag swaps. I use a controller on the tank. I have all the calibrating solutions and storage solutions.
