Hanna or Sailifert?

When I pull my plunger to the 1ml like in the photo, I only have a little over 0.8ml of solution in the syringe not 0.9ml like the photo. This confuses me and make me wonder if I am reading the end result right..

If you check the syringe, you will see that the 0 mark is just above the nozzle where the plunger will stop naturally because it cannot travel any further. That means, that the volume in the nozzle (be it solution or air) will not be pressed out of the syringe. So even there is still something in the syringe when the plunger is fully pressed down, you have transferred exactly the amount that is indicated by the imprint (assuming that the imprint is accurate and that you were accurate when sucking up the solution and that there are no additional air bubbles).

the air bubble is a non issue ,it doesn't matter....as long as you draw the plunger up to 1.0ml ,it will be accurate you are measuring how far the plunger moves

+1 Also when i am lost on the directions because they can be confusing sometimes going on youtube there are videos on them. I always watch them just in case i am missing something.

I used the Salifert kit for phosphate and hated it, I switched to the Hanna low phosphate test H1736 NOT H1713 and I couldn't be happier. For Cal, Alk, Mag, and Nitrate I use Red Sea.

I have had issues with Salifert reading different and sometimes a big difference from batch to batch so I stopped using them and stared with Redsea test kits. I also double check with Hanna now a bout once a month or more if something seems off..

Comparing the API to the salifert, the API reads much higher for me.

The API I am getting like 9
The salifert I'm getting like 6.

Which one is correct is anyone's guess.

I would check against the reference solution. But 9 sounds good and 6 too low so I would initially assume API is more correct.

Here's thread I did years ago comparing Calcium and Alk test kits between API and Salifert. I pretty much concluded both worked just fine and API was cheaper so the better choice for me.

I would never rely of just one alk test kit. I use my hanna checker and then if my numbers fluctuate from the normal alk consumption I then go to Salifert for reassurance. My hanna and Salifert match each other.

OK, just so I can be clear and try to get a correct test reading I have posted my starting point and my end point. Does this look correct to you guys? If I'm not mistaken my reading is 1600ppm for Mag..

That is reading 0.2 left,0.8 used is 1600 on the chart i found online.

I took the plunge could not pass it up as I had a store credit as well and bought the Hanna Alk test kit $39.00 with tax hope I like it

Yeah, based on just the start and end, the 1600ppm reading is correct.

Those are some really high Mg levels for your tank. Have you done all the other steps correctly? Mg is quite a tedious process with Red Sea - having to shake the vial for 15 seconds after each of the 5 drops of reagent A etc...

Oh yeah, my Mag should be high because I'm dosing Kent Tech M to fight off this darn Bryopsis. That's why I need to make sure I'm reading this test correctly, trying to get to 2000ppm.

Used my Hanna today for the first time oh my gosh this makes testing fun love it so far only other kit I have to compare with is API and both were just about exact.
