I served 3 yrs, 67 to 70 ,in West Berlin in Army Intelligence.Probably would have been sent to Viet Nam but the Soviets invaded Czechoslovakia in 1968 just as my advanced training was finishing up,so there was a push to upgrade forces in Germany ,particularly intelligence in West Berlin in what was then called the Outpost of Freedom as it was about 250 miles or so behind the Iron curtain.
My Dad was a prisoner of war during WW2 taken when his outfit was wiped out at the battle of Monte Casino in Italy. He also served in combat in North Africa. He was awarded the prisoner of war medal, purple heart and bronze star. Special thanks to you Dad.
