Happy w/ your dried alae clip?

Crush Coral

I have the classic orange clown fish clip and my yellow tang rips the nori out of it so I have to watch to make sure it does not end up decaying some where. Anyone have one that works well?

Ya i always seem to have the same problem with the algae clip I have the sheets just seem to "rip" off at the clip part.

Get a floating clip. Mine is not and is currently stuck under the rockwork and I can't get it out.

I use the clear clips that sometimes come in packages of Ocean Nutrition's Seaweed Selects. They work very well for me.

Just take the suction cup off that cheapo clip, and then zip tie the clip (or glue) on to a small mag float.

The best method I've used is rubber-banding the nori right to a mag float. But you need a ton of rubber bands. My tangs will chew through the rubber band every day or so.

I have one with a suction cup, but don't rely on it to hold. I use a piece of fishing line to hang it in the tank. It blows around a bit in the current, but my fish like the challenge of chasing it around. :-)

I can never get the suction cup ones to stay on the glass. I end up rubber banding the nori to a small rock. The only bad thing about this is the hermits get to it eventually.

I use these clips also, but it helps to immediately take it out of the water to help preserve the life of the suction cup I've notice. When I leave in the water for long periods of time the, suction cup begins to get hard

+1 - you put your hands in the tank to give them nori - put your hands back in the tank to pull the clip out when they're finished, then clean out the extra nori they can't get to. I've had clips last for literally a year before trashing them.

I use the clear suction cup clips as well. To hold the nori better, I first dip it in the water to soften it up a little, then fold it in half. This makes the piece double in thickness and the clip holds it much better when the critters start tearing away.

As far as the suction cup scenario, mine inevitably wore out as well, so the solution was to take a scrap piece of acrylic, bend one end into a hanger affair with a heat gun and drill & tap the other end for a large headed nylon screw. The nylon screw goes through the hole where the suction cup used to be & threads into the acrylic which is hung on the tank rim. The nylon screw head is large enough to keep the clip from falling off, but allows the clip to swing around a little. You can make the acrylic hanger as long as needed for your tank depth. I find my Yellow Tang prefers it lower down. The other advantage to the whole set up is you don't need to get your hands wet or use a tool to position the clip as was necessary with the suction cup.

Hope this makes sense, if not, I can take a photo and post it.

I attached a standard clip with zip ties to a piece of PVC that can swing into the tank when needed or removed from the tank when not. It works very well. The only thing I should have done was make the submerged part a little longer. I also would have been nice to use black 1/2 inch PVC.

My LFS has a clip that uses a small magnet (like a mag float but smaller) that works great. I also have found that I need to use a piece of Gutter-guard (from home depot) that I fold in half over the Nori so that the tangs can't rip off huge pieces that then float into a corner and decay.

Pics of my acrylic thingy. I added an extension to the original piece to get it lower in the tank. This also provided an opportunity to add a second clip. If you don't have a tap to thread the hole in the acrylic, you can always drill the hole bigger and get the nut to go with the screw.
