I have over the last few months tried to keep a neon goby. Both I bought from my LFS where the ones with blue strip and turns to yellow at the head, if it matters :). Anyway they where cleaning fish at the store and ate food. I acclimated like I do any fish, put in tank and the disappear. The first one I got a month ago and never saw again after the first day. the second I got last week and saw for a few days then gone..... I am not sure if they are dead or hiding. The tank is somewhat large, 5ft 150gal so im wondering if they are just hiding. I have no other problems with my other fish so not sure whats going on. I also have a canopy on the tank and egg crate over the overflow. guess there is a small chance they could have jumped on the egg crate and slipped through but I looked in and didn't see them. Anyone have a suggestion or any idea?

I've found mine in the overflow box one time. Eggcrate is definitely big enough for them to slip through.

I'm guessing they jumped, but they also have been sick. I have tried 4 over the years. First two I had, one died in QT (wouldn't eat). The second one lasted a couple of weeks in the DT before I never saw it again. The second batch had ich in QT. I treated then and they made it out fine. Both jumped through my 1/4" clear mesh and dried up on top of the mesh 😞 I won't be trying them again for this reason.

Wow I feel lucky then.. i have had 3 neon gobies and they are still all alive. The ones with blue stripes turning yellow at the head are sharknose gobies. The solid yellow line and mostly black bodies are yellowline gobies. I have 1 sharknose and 2 yellow lines. All 3 came directly from ORA with no health issues.

My sharknose goby hops on my hand too when working in the tank. Quite the character. Btw all 3 of mine are always visible even in a large tank with lots of rock
