Besides damsles and chromis what would you say is next most hardy reef safe fish

Yep!

Pajama cardinals.

I don't know if it's the norm, but in addition to those fish already listed, my hawkfish is pretty hardy.

Longnose Hawkfish and one spot Foxface. These two survived a rather terrible tank move (paid a LFS to move an existing just purchased tank who sent employees who did not know what they were doing and I did not know better at the time so left the decisions to them). These two got dunked in 60 degree water that you could not see through and survived the resulting ammonia spike. Poor fish.

Anyway, I have the hawkfish 1 year later and traded in the foxface 6 moths later because he was a spaz that was freaking out the other fish.

My Marine Betta also falls into the hardy category.

My vote goes to Dottybacks. Specifically the Arabian! Mean, but tough!!

clarion angelfish and passer angelfish are very rough and tough. You'd have to beat it with a club to kill it, they're like cockroaches!
