there is no guarantee that they'll pair up.
It is possible but not guaranteed

If you tried to pair them up, but they didn't show interest, is there a risk of a male and female fighting each other if they each had their own starfish? It would be a 34 gallon tank of that matters. If I wanted to try and aggression is a possible risk, is it a better idea to wait until my 65 is matured enough that I can move the female to that if they don't get along?

no they wern't in the fuge I had them seporated for the purpose of taking pics and watching them eat the first while I had them.
I had a acrylic thing that suctioned to the glass and I kept them there for about 2 months. They are so shy and always in the dark so I did this so they wouldn't hide from me and I could study how long stars last them.
Now I know a linkia last apx 9-10days or a chocostar last about a week. ALso see the small white bits in the bottom of the pics?
That stuff is inside chocolate chip stars and falls out of their arms as they are eaten.
I asked 3 aquarium store owners about this stuff and they are confused by it, I think they suprised I noticed somthing they never did with their harlequins.

Now my harlequins are out and hidding 99% of the time. If I could catch them I'd put them back or get another tank for them were they can't hide from me.

Cheers

They won't color up like that unless you buy a certain type(Hawaiins/pictas/etc.)

just making sure you knew this before you got your hopes up.

in a tank that big you won really have to worry about them fighting.
I would go for it your case as is.
No need to worry about having the other tank setup because in a tank that big(34 gallons) even if they dot pair up you will almost never come into problems having a male and female shrimp

is it wise to have 2 hawaiians and 2 indos in a 9 gallon reef?

You wouldn't want to put two pairs in the same "small" tank because they are territorial.
The are different species so I'm still not positive about this one.

The white "bits" are actually pieces of the starfish arms.
The shrimp only eat the tube feet of the starfish, so the remains decay producing the little white bits.

it shows up really well on my black sand lol :0

great another harlequin conciur! lol
At least I'm not the only one who noticed this.

And to answer the question. noI never got to watch them molt.
Over the 2 months they each molted 2 or 3 times but its always at night when I was alseep. Usually a day or two after they finished off a nice big meal they would molt but I missed it each time.
All my shrimp molt quite regularly though. I have 2 huge skunk cleaners & 2 blood, 6 sexy shrimp, a pistol shrimp and my 2 harlequins. I think my tank has steroids for shrimp!
