UGH I just caught my Harley picking at my plate coral!

I just got it two weeks ago two and for the past 2 days I've been going crazy trying to figure out why it was receding and losing tissue. After testing the water I suspected the Harley, so today I left the lights off and when I get home... :( I have a 12g nanocube so I placed the plate higher in the tank in hopes that the shrimp won't find it (he often hangs out at the bottom right of the tank). The guy just finished a 5 inch sand sifting sea star too! (it took 2-3 weeks, but he finished it). :( :( :(

You should name them Bonnie and Clyde. thats what i named my allardi clownfish:)
 
You could always name the male Harly! :)

I named both female & male Harly out of lack of creativity.

Just like I named my Mandarin "Mandy" lucky its a female I would of named the male Mandy too.

None of my other fish or shrimp have names really it would make me miss them more if they die. My fiance named my first clownfish Jemma because it sounds cute but we call her a goldfish more then by the name we gave her.
 
Hello. I just bought a harlequin today at my lfs because i have an enourmous population of asterina stars. I was just wondering if they are very secretive because he was out when we first put him in the tank, and now he seems to be hiding. Thanks.
 
ya you dont see them often especially in larger tanks. if you give them a big starfish to eat they stay on that and you can see them.

If there's any info about life expectancy, it may be in that Chuck's Addiction article. I'll have to see if I can dig it up, then I'll get you a link.
 
It's a great article and I've read through it a few times.

I never saw a life expectancy listed.

I may have passed over it, so if anyone finds it that would be great :)
 
Can anyone tell me if they can be maintained on asterina stars, and if so how many a day?
I thought I'd seen someone say the will eat mini brittle stars too.

Quite welcome. It's a must read for anyone that owns or is insterested in owning one of these guys, imo.

I feed sand-sifters, so I can't help on the issue of feeding asteriniids.

Well I havn't tryed just feeding astrea stars but it can and has been done. IF you have a spare space the astreas will be harvested from so the harlequins won't go though the entire populations.

It would probble take a lot of astreas too keep a harlequin happy.
10 a day might do fine but you still might have to start suplementing their feeding with other stars.

I have enough astreas in my 135 tank but might only get 20 a week at best to go into my 65 w/ the harlequins.
