Has anyone been to Grand Cayman?

If your looking for certain reefs to dive "Babylon" is my favorite . Its on the North shore. "Shark Alley" is really good also . " The Fish Tank " and "Groupers Grottos" are 2 more good ones . If your looking to charter a Dive Boat there a couple outstanding companies there .I dont know if its against RC'S rules to post a link so I'll Pm you a couple names.

If you can get to the North Wall in Grand Cayman, it's the best diving. Though we did have fun a few years ago diving off 7 Mile beach. Seems we were near the path of the tourist submarine and as it went by we saw lots of faces in portholes and lots of pointing! :)

I have been there but only for a day and the people I was with were not certified divers so we chose to go snorkle with the sting rays on a sandbar. The water was really nice. That would be cool to see one of the subs. I rode in one on St. Thomas or St. John. I cant remember which virgin island it was.

was there this Jan

was there this Jan

I was there in Jan, stayed at Spanish Bay resort on north side, I snorkled at Cementary Reef, it's off the major road down to ship port. There is a creepy cemetart in front of the beach, you walk past it, and down to the beach, which is bearth taking. I snorkled with my gf there for nearly 4hrs was amazing, in I saw long spine urchins, butterfly fish, ofcourse Sm's, plus jeweled damsels, atlantic tangs, blue head wrasses, etc... Also, saw huge mounds of Porites, the size of a vw. was wild.

good luck and have fun
David

honestly, the diving there is really good they aren't going to take you to any "bad" spots. I have to say I did enjoy diving the North wall. I have been there twice and enjoyed the just about every Site we went to.

another vote for the North wall - amazing

I haven't been in years but last time I was there I was on a Cosumel and Cayman cruise - just walking off the boat at the port you could see 60 ft down to the urchins on the bottom - that kind of clarity where all the boats chug in and out with all the diesel and boat pollution was unexpected

I snorkeled the 7 mile beach several years ago while on an excusion from a cruise. I saw an enormus blue parrot fish there that must have been at least 3-4 feet long. And the water must not have been much deeper than waist high.

Yes!

Yes!

Grand Cayman is the best place i go there about every 3 months. The cemetery beach is very quite. And Very nice. The cemetery isnt scary!.Its right across from the fire station.I reccomend there. You could realy go at any beach ecxept the public beach because they have a net out there.Everytime I go i take the Oh Boy boat (tour boat) and they take you to sting ray city(very cool!!),a reef (pretty nice),Reef fishing(Very Fun!),Beach(alright),and theres another one that goes deep sea fishing but thats a different boat and different tour but with the same company. You should rent a car and have your bathing suit and your equipment in the car at all times trust me you'll see why.You should drive up to rum point and on the way there stop at the beaches or parks and walk out in the water (ts about knee high)and check it out its pretty cool they have all kinds of fishes and coral everywhere. You should go out to Cayman Bac and Little Cayman. Oh yeah when your in Grand Cayman theres somwhere called the four way stop. The Movie store(on your left) behind there is a great Scuba spot and thats where all the tour boats go but theres not realy any access to it ecxept a boat. because there doin construction on it. But when the contrstuction is done you could probaly walk out.Hope that helped! Enjoy the Cayman Islands!

As everyone said, just about anywhere in Grand Cayman (GCM) is great. Stingray city is a good, unique experience. You can dive it (about 15 ft), but I would recommend just snorkeling close by (sand bar), where the water is shallow enough to stand. Before Hurricane Ivan, a good place was a shore dive in front of the Turtle Farm, along West Bay. The Turtle Farm has been built back and better than ever, it is a great place to visit, and they may have the water entry in place again. If not, you can probably catch a boat ride going that way.

If you can make it to Cayman Brac (CYB) or Little Cayman (LCB), it is well worth it, much slower pace, no traffic lights, great diving. Dive the sunken Russian destroyer in CYB. In LCB dive Bloody Bay wall. The wall starts at about 20 feet, and shears straight down into the deep blue. Its one of the popular spots for the "Cayman Aggressor" live aboard boats.

Hope this helps.

Grand Cayman

Grand Cayman

My wife and I were in Cayman a few months ago. Many great places to dive - don't remember which ones we dived. But, I would strongly recommend Ocean Frontiers as a dive operator. They are off the beaten path (about 40 mins) away from 7-mile beach. But worth the drive (if that is where you are staying). We stayed at the Westin, and rented a car to drive out. Was kinda fun. Also, my wife did her Open Water dives with them.

We tried Red Sail and Divers Down as well. They were OK, but Ocean Frontiers is a tier above.

Suggest you rent a car if you are moving around. Cabs are hard to get and very expensive, where as car rental is cheap.

Ditto. They are one of the best dive outfits I've dove with. Used to do a very impressive shark dive, till the politicians got scared that tourists would be afraid of the thought of sharks in the shallow reefs and outlawed shark dives.
