MY LFS has some 2-4 inch Croceas that are totally embedded to the mantle in LR. The pieces are about the size of a baseball and some softball. They just got them in. All you can see is the mantle flush with the rock. They look cool.

Yea I knew that they were "boring" clams but have never seen any for sale like this. They look awesome totally encased.

I've seen them when I went to Indonesia to do some reef diving, pretty cool because they're not as apt to close when you get near them. The largest I saw was about 5 inches imbedded in a rock with about 8-10 others. Where did you find this?

just a note, i am sure these clams were not wildly collected as tehy are Protected world wide.

Julio,
When it comes to croceas they are wild collected.
They require Cites II.
Most of the croceas today are coming from Vietnam, some comes from Solomon, but also other places are collecting them with and without Cites.
They are starting now a new farms for farm raised croceas, but it will take about 2 yrs till they'll start selling, as they just started a couple of months back.

thanks for clearing that up, but even the ones that are coming in from vietnam, i thought they were farmed.

There 120% no farm in Vietnam that is exporting croceas.

In the prices they're sellling their clams ,nobody will invest money in a farm, besides one guy who decided to get ready for the rainy days when there will be no more clams there.

They are harvesting croceas thousands a week.
