Has anyone had a Power Sweep 214?

I just bought one tonight on sale for $13 buck so I thought why not...

The reason why not so far is: it don't move water!!!! right now I have it full blast and it only seems to push the water about 6". is that normal for this thing? I have it in a 20L I turned it facing the bottom about 1/2 way up the tank and my CC just's move around like i have a cheap air pump on it....I never thought this thing was going to be "Great" but I did think it would be better then this....

Anyone else have one? is it really that bad or is it just me?

can I even use it to mix salt?

Thanks,

Ron

Mine seems to move water, but it heats up quickly. I only run it a few hours at a time. If I run it over night it will heat the water 4 degrees!

They also clog rather quickly, a very poor choice in powerhead for saltwater. When i first started i had one, but quickly got rid of it for better ones.

it's funny you say that...my water temp is at 84 degrees right now...
I had a 400gph pump that I took out just for that reason. I bad a sump to reuse that pump but I still need to mix the salt tonight...I'm hoping that will give me all the flow I need now along with my two HOB filters.

Sounds like you purchased a $13 heater that doesn't have a thermostat. Just about everyone on this site who has owned a powersweep says they're junk. As far as a cheap solution to moving water back and forth goes, the Hydor-Flo on a maxi-jet would be better.

I used to have one. They really aren't that strong. The only plus is the sweep feature, and that usually locks ever few months. It takes a good vinegar soaking to get it to work.

I had 2 of them, they sucked so bad I replaced them with HK's. Most of the flow they produce gets taken up to make the thing sweep. The sweeping side to side is a great selling point for any noob, they got me.

I agree with everyone else. I had one and the sweeping feature jammed almost daily, and since I had mine in a 55 with a 30 gallon sump it didn't do too much on the heating. But Get a hydor-flo wheel on a MJ and you'll be much happier!

Been there, done that. Not a good pump. Great concept but poorly executed. Get a Koralia or Tunze nano pump instead.

I use one, I'm not sure if it's the big one or smaller ones....

At first it would always clog right after a waterchange was done and the tank was just settling down.

Used to **** me off bad.

I would have thrown it out then if I had any money to get something better.

I was (and still am ) poor, so...I kept the damn thing.

Now.....it seems to have turned the corner...hasn't clogged or stopped for 6 months or so.....I'm starting to like the damn thing.

I actually got it to sweep across the area that needs flow too!!

Of course now that I have said that.....it's bound to clog.

Wow, I didn't think it was that bad...I had one a few years back and it worked great so I bought it...I just took that one back and bought the bigger one the 228, it bites too. I guess I can't whine about it, the guy gave me a brand new 10 gallon tank for my fuge and that 228 for about 21 bucks and that included the 13 bucks for the 224.

Thanks,

Ron
