I was just wondering. I was cleaning my tank as usual and it started to wobble a bit. SO I got to thinkin, man, this stand doesn't look that strong! I mean it's probably holdin 1000lbs! Know what I mean?

what kinda of stand?? iron.

many years ago, my uncle lived in an apartment, he slammed his living room door, and his 55 fell over, he had the iron stand.

No, I got a wood one. You know, just the standard one that comes with the 72 Bow. You know like the ones you see at PetCO. If you ever go into PetCo...........

You could cut 2x4's and literally build a stand in side that stand to make it much more sturdy. Reinforce all the corners and the top and bottom. But just doing the corners should work.

Can an iron stand that is rusting collapse after many years of usage? What would be the best way to fix this problem?

You can try shimming the feet: you can buy shims at Home Depot in bundles. Ram one under, grab thick end, lift and break. This at least deals with the wobble. You can also use tension wires and expanders with screw components in the middle to attempt to stabilize. Crossbracing is good. Liquid Nails can fasten a wedge-shaped piece of wood to a corner under a tank and stablize it.

With the shims...break them on the outside of your stand, not just under. Use something to hold down the part of the ship you want to keep then flex and break.
