Has anyone ordered a mantis from Marine Depot or FishSupply?

LA at least you can either order a Peacock if they have them in stock otherwise it really is a crap shoot as to what you will get. Getting a description may be problematic as the call center and animals may be seperate. I would try atlantisaquarium.net, and give them a call. That way they will at least be able to tell you what they have. I just picked up a big L.maculata from them last week and they had like 4 or 5 different smashers in the shop.
I actually just ordered one from Marine Depot and it shoudl be arriving tomorrow. The person on the phone said that they are small green spearers that get to be 4 inches max. I have a 12gallon nano setup for it so it should work out well. Does anyone know where you can get Peacock Mantis Shrimps online? I have seen them listed, but never in stock.

Thanks for the info...I actually emailed them later that day and got the same info..a green spearer. At least they know what mantis shrimps they have.
Peacocks are the easy ones to find. Try AtlantisAquariums.net or http://www.fishsupply.com/ Most LFSs will order them for you too since its one species that they actually can identify.

Thanks. The mantis arrived this morning and is a spearer that is about 3 inches long or so. It is a grayish color, but there was pieces of shell inside the bag so I think it may have just molted. Hopefully it gains some more color, but if not oh well at least it is healthy looking.

It has the iridescent green eyes and yellow and black uropods and the rest of it is just a gray/brown color. My only concern after reading that is going to be keeping the temperature on my nano down in the summer time.

Thanks again for the info howard....now at least people looking for Mantis Shrimps will know what to expect to get from Marine Depot. They were confident that it was a green spearer of some sort.
Also, thanks Thurge for the AtlantisAquariums.net tip for mantis shrimp. I called them after I read your post and they had only 2 left. One was a peacock and the other was a very cool looking smasher for $40. After requesting a picture and talking to someone else, the said it not a smasher that it was a spearer and it was $60 instead of $40. I wanted to see a picture before I bought it and they said they would send me one. I received and email today from them saying they couldn't ID from Roy's ID page, and that someone already put a deposit on it but here was a picture of it on their website now just in case I wanted to see the one that I didn't get. But there wasn't a picture on the website..maybe they will post it later.
I want a Smithii smasher..but is it going to take me years to find one since I don't live in California? Frustrating.
