Has anyone tried a different theme other than "coral reef"?

I bet some of those ships are worth more now becuase of how much coral they have on them then when they were new 60 years ago.

At least watch the video clip on the link above.

I don't know if you would call it a "theme" or not. But I have my tank set up as a half coral propagation and half reef. There is a lot more that I need to do to complete the tank, but you gotta work with what you got. My DIY Rocks should be ready in a couple of weeks.

The tank is rather messy in this pic.

Just one comment: I don't think a living coral reef in my living room could ever be passe, no matter how many people have one.

Basically, if a piece of wood or rope or leather has been in the ocean for a few years, won't it be "reef safe" because the harmfull stuff would have leached out? I'm not talking about metal objects or anything like that.

That'd be a good thing to find out, though. I've seen some nice driftwood that I've wanted to use in a cool Atlantic/Caribbean setup I've been planning..

Thanks for the inspiration. I've toyed with an idea I got while on vacation in the Caribbean. I stayed at a hotel that had a pier literally covered with Tubastrea. Very inspiring.
