Hi guys

I came across an article on line where someone had set up a "cleaning station"...ie a separate tank where they kept some dancing shrimp...sps with aefw were placed in it for short periods of time (30 minutes or so) to let the shrimp eat any worms or eggs on the coral..was thinking of getting a few shrimp n adding to my sump so I can place a few sps in at a time..has anyone tried this method and has it been successful?

It may work if you have small numbers of AEFW. If your display tank is heavily infested, the now cleaned corals will be attacked by the survivors in your system. How many acros do you have in your system? After setup, my 50 gallon SPS tank was infested with AEFW. I used dips, fragged, removed eggs, and used fish to eliminate them from my system. It took about 6 months to eliminate the nasty AEFW's. My fish would wait for the turkey baster and they would follow the tip and wolf down any flatworms that were blown off the coral. This was done a long time ago and there are some more reliable treatments that you can certainly try. You should read over some of the other RC blogs for some chemical treatments that may provide quicker results. .........Jim

Thanks. Chemical treatments are hard in South Africa. We don't have access to alot of the chemical treatments such as Bayer or interceptor

Hi,

Start feeding your fish with a turkey baster (large eyedropper used for basting meat:uhoh2:). Your fish will associate the baster with food and they will follow it around as you baste your corals to dislodge the worms. Most fish go nuts over flatworms. Some wrasses like yellow coris will hunt them down too. Good luck and keep us posted on your shrimp experiment................Jim

can anyone post a pic of the bayer product used please..might try to buy it online if possible. I got three dancing shrimp which I will add to the sump this evening then will start putting sps into sump for 15min periods at a time

here in europe many farms have yhis "stations"..the problem is the perfect timing..when ryncocinethes finishing last flatworm begin to eat polyps..

also the most simple and effective method is blow with turkey baster or strong pump (non wavemaker) the corals..
