Ok so I went in to Home Depot and then went to the plumbing department and asked the man where they keep their bulkheads, and the man's looking at me like I'm from another planet? :S

Anyone else ever experience this ?

Virtually every time I open my mouth. :)

When I ask for something they tell me it's in back, and then proceed to take a 20 minute break until they're confident I've given up and left already.

bulk heads are not standard plumbing items. They are however avaliable at most boat supply stores.

"Virtually every time I open my mouth. " Yeah me too........

The average home depot employee (at least around here) would be lucky to know what AISLE something is in, let alone whether they carry a specific item. If you can't find it where you think it should be, they probably dont have it, and if they do, its likely they dont know where it is.

I asked a HD employee where the GFCI outlet adapters were. He showed me a surge protector, and then said that there was no such thing--I would have to switch out the outlet. I found the adapter 20 seconds later and showed it to him. Deep sigh.

Home Depot has gotten pretty disappointing. For its size and rep I thought it'd be much better. Also when I needed aquarium safe silicone, no one there was able to help me. Then I went to the much smaller Home Hardware and found aquarium safe silicone in like 30 secs.

Also surprised to find that Big Al's carried bulkhead fittings in various sizes.

Bulkheads are not standard stuff at my local HD..... other than a LFS.... pool/spa stores have a wide variety of bulkheads.

EXACT same thing when i was looking for bulkheads! i explained what a bulkhead was and the guy brought me to the conduit section :rolleye1:

for me bulkheads are one of the most important plumbing pieces, i get them for bulkreefsupply.com, hayward brand. There are many brands mande from a few different materials and they are not the same quality.

Home depot has the aquarium safe silicone in the painting aisle next to the gorilla glue and epoxy, etc. I bought some yesterday. It seems to be the same stuff as the 100% silicone in the glass aisle????????

I'm not sure about the one from Home Depot, but the silicone I got from Home Hardware has "Aquarium Safe" written in big font right on the front.

So does the one that I got at HD. Its called DAP aquariums. I bet its the same stuff as the 100% silicone that is much cheaper.

Well according to some other post I read on RC I think :S, it said that DAP worked with AGA to make an aquarium safe silicone, that's probably the stuff you bought, although I couldn't find it at the HD near me and no one at the store new about it either.

Okay, I'm not surprised.

I had a pest problem with my plants and wanted some Ladybugs. I went to HomeDespot and asked their plant guys and this is what happened:

Me: I have mealybugs. I need some Ladybugs to eat them.
HDGuy1: We don't have any.
HDGuy2: Is that a plant?
HDGirl: *stood there looking confused*
Me: Uh...no... *they still looked confused* They're BUGS. Little red ones with black spots.

 Seriously? And no, none of them corrected the "Is that a plant" guy.

If you think they get confused with Bulkheads, try asking for Eggcrates :)

LOL! I had an issue with eggcrate too, it took me like half an hour with a guy's help to find it. The funny thing was, we got a product number and everything online (in the store!) and it still took that long.

But hey at least most of'em are nice right

Somewhere along the line Home Depot went from a good place to find hardware items to a BBQ grill and garden plant store. If you can find a person to help you (no small task!) they generally need to call someone else over, which can often take as long as it would to just go over to the Ace and see what there is to see.

/I did it, never looked back :)
//Ace has all kinds of plumbing connectors

one good thing comes from all the projects that i have done over the years i DO know what they carry and i DO know where it is ,so it makes it easy . helps with the chicks too just ask them what they are looking for and you goy your foot in the door mr maintience man !
