Has you tank flooded?

Title pretty much sums it up

I will be using the lifereef overflows (yup... to chicken to try to drill my tank)
and was wondering if they are as reliable as they advertise.

So is a flood a unique experience? something that seldom happens or is it not 'if' you have a flood but 'when' you WILL have a flood?

Wanting to make the move to saltwater but tryin not to be stupid about it

HOB or hang on the back overflows and sumps can be setup to be flood proof pretty easily. You want to make sure that when the return pump is turned off that you have enough room in your sump to handle any backfill from your return plumbing, tank and what is left on the drain plumbing. You also need to make sure that the overflow will restart reliably which Life Reef overflows are designed to do. You also need to make sure that the tank itself can handle any extra water that the return pump can feed the tank if the overflow should get blocked or fail (you may burn up the pump but you save a flood and the pump would probably still get burned up once there was not enough water in the sump for it).

DT almost overflowed once when algae clogged up the return and the ATO keep pump new water into the sump, which was then pumped into the DT. Caught it 1/4" from going over !

I would do whatever is necessary to have the tank drilled. If you dont have the skill to drill I would hire a professional to do it. Dont fall victim to Murphys Law.

Flood?

Flood?

When I was on vacation in the Key's my overflow siphon stopped and after overflowing the refugium a little the water shorted out the power and stopped the spilling. My friend called my Local Fish Store and got it up and running before I lost anything....I was lucky this time....:debi:

i have overflowed 100 gallons before. my ATO was a single switch and it got stuck, it put 100 gallons of RO in the sump and the return pump caused an overflow of the DT. it was like those "walls of water". cool looking but bad news!!!!!!

Nope none of my tanks have ever overflowed. I plan in siphon brakes and sumps with enough room to handle water from power outages.

I flood all the time... Basement sump and A.D.D. Gets me once a month...
