Great build and beautiful tank. Just have one question. I thought I saw a Yellow Coris wrasse in there. If so, just curious where it sleeps? I thought they needed sand to burrow in at night.

Jason did you get a shipping quote? I have a quote on an AGE tank from none other than Chris of thefishgallery and while the quote includes the tank, stand and crating for the tank we didn't get so far as the actual cost of shipping.
Just curious how much money I would or would not save driving cross country to pick the tank up as opposed to letting it be mailed.
I basically have my entire tank budget worked out and this is my sole "missing link" so to speak.

Yes, that is a yellow coris in there. I also have a leopard wrasse that's also a fan of sand at night. That was the one reservation I had about bare bottom when I started the tank, but so far they seem to be fairly content with just wedging underneath the rock work at night. They are both still eating like crazy and seem relatively unaffected by the lack of sand.
I thought about adding a small patch of sand in a container behind the rock work, but I'm afraid they would make a mess out of it and toss sand around everywhere at night?
They will give you an estimate for shipping, but that is paid separately directly to the shipping company when the tank is ready for delivery. In my case, it was about $200 cheaper to drive and pick it up, even after gas costs are factored in. But, with staying in a couple of hotels overnight and eating on the road it ended up being about the same as having it shipped.
I was still glad to pick it up though because it was a fun road trip and I was able to get my tank about a week faster then if I would have waited to have it shipped. That was worth it in my case because it allowed me to use my last week of vacation to get the tank set up.

Thanks, was considering throwing my brother in the passenger seat and taking shifts so we can drive pretty much nonstop but the savings would have to be pretty significant for me to subject the both of us to such misery.
I could do something especially crazy and drive to AGE out in like Oregon or wherever the heck it is and then divert to Texas so I could buy my sump from Melev...
Anyways enough of diverting your thread and discussing things that wont happen. Back to your tank, which is shaping up to be beautiful btw. Not that it isn't already but with some good growth it'll be fantastic.
How do you have your vortechs setup (position/setting) and do you find the 2 pumps + return to be sufficient flow?

Oh, one more question, and sorry to spam your thread but I really like your build.
How do you like the 40" stand height? That is average counter-top height I think and is optimal for the average stool and also quite good for upright viewing without completely destroying your back. Not to mention extra room in the stand. However, it also requires a bit more reaching or a step stool for tank maintenance.
Anyways I ask because that is my planned stand height for a 24" tank. Would you recommend it or would you have gone shorter... or taller!?

YEah, the 40" stand is great for viewing comfortably even from a standing position. Its the perfect height for a stool as you mentioned. The only downside is the fact you need a stepping stool to reach to the bottom of the tank, but that's really not that big of a deal.
I highly recommend taller stands now (42" might be even better).
Oh and for the Vortechs, I have them pretty much directly facing each other on both long ends of the tank. I use the reef-crest mode and the second pump is on anti-sync most of the time. I don't even have to turn them up all the way and I get plenty of flow from them with the return. I could see using a third pump to get better flow behind my rock work at some point, but I doubt I'll ever go that route.

I'M SOOOO MAD AT MYSELF!!
Today I did something really stupid, on accident, twice!
Since I have still not completed covering the stand on the tank, I have just been keeping my reefkeeper elite unit sitting on the window sill next to my tank.
Today we had a sudden down pour of rain and our window was open. So, I went to shut the window to avoid water splashing in the window.
As I did this I accidentally pushed the reefkeeper elite unit off the window sill and it swung down by its cord to the floor where it slammed into the metal leg of the aquarium stand and cracked the display!!
I was extremely ****ed and frantically tried to unplug it to see if I could get the display to pop back up. At this point everything was still working, you just couldn't see anything on the screen except a crack. As I was unplugging it, I let it slip out of my hands and it plopped right into the sump!
SO, now it is soaking wet and is completely fried and I have no controller on my tank at all!!!
This sucks so bad because the only option I have is to order another one and wait 2-3 days for it to arrive.
That means I'll likely have to keep a close eye on the temperature of the tank with a manual thermometer and my heater.
This sucks so bad! I'm now out an extra 300 bucks I hadn't planned on spending!
Lesson to be learned:
Controllers are delicate, be careful with them and securely fasten them to something!
