Hatian pink tipped anemonie

Hello,
I purchased a Hatian pink tipped anemonie from my pet shop and was wondering if anyone has had any experience with these. I am acclimating by drip method and have the live phytoplankton reef blend the shop was feeding it. I was told to spot feed it, and the owner of the store told me about the conditions of anemonies, such as infections on the feet where they took it off rocks, and the mouth area. It looks to be in great condition to me. The owner is the nicest guy I have found locally, and I have bought most of my marine life from him. Are there any tips anyone can give me about placing them on my reef? Also I have a Coral Banded Shrimp, but I have had no problems from her in the past. I also have 2 (3 spot or domino damsels) about the size of a half quarter.

It is moving it's tentacles around in the acclimatoin proccess. Not sure if this is is due to current because I have never had an anemonie before. Do they move their tentacles around?

The anemone will find a place it likes, but from what i read on the Haiti Anemone, It dose not host anything so watch you fish.

On placement i would start low and next to a rock and yes it will move tentacles around

Are you looking for this anemone to host clowns? Unlike other anemones, the Haitian Pink Tip Anemone does not have a relationship with any particular fish, and it is rare for any type of clownfish or damsel to reside within them. You may find that a clown will try to host only to wake up and the anemone ate the fish, yes, even a clown. The tips move with the current. This animal will move to another location in your tank if it is not happy. Many folks don't like that, but it will go where it is happiest.

Thanks! Will my CBS be a problem? Kind of dissapointed that it doesn't host, but it still seems to be a great addition to my tank.

From the pics and descriptions I've seen on the Google machine it may not be a Hatian. Can't trust the Internet a lot of the time though! I think I'll go with your advice instead and treat it as a dangerous creature at first. Google also said they were poisonous to touch, but the owner of the store handled multiple with his hands. Sooo...

If you are going to risk putting a clown with it, your best choice is a clarkii clown. I've have some luck and by this I mean, my clown was never eaten but I didn't have the clown longer than a few months. Don't be too turned off because I've had way worse luck with Haddoni carpets eating tank mates and these are natural clownfish hosts.

If you don't want to risk a clown, there are symbiotic shrimp that this anemone hosts. However, a lot of people keep clowns in their tanks whether they have anemones or not so I am going to bet you'll add a clown no matter what anyone tells you

These anemones are notorious for wandering around. Even when you think it has finally settled, it lifts up and moves. Some people report it will even do this after sitting still for over a year.

I kept this anemone with CBS. The shrimp likes to pull the tips off the anemone and eat them. I've noticed this with multiple anemones and multiple CBS. I won't keep a CBS in any tank any longer. I'm not saying this will happen to you but it did happen to me.

They are nice anemones so take all of the advice you get with a grain of salt. Also, despite the "cheap" price tag, they do require all the requirements of a host anemone. The are a step harder to keep than a BTA but they aren't hard if you have good light, water, etc.

Those damsels will be mean as they get older. You might even find they adopt the anemone as a host soon.

Yeah I just noticed my CBS picking at it before it was settled. And I noticed the damsels kind of picking on eachother. The pink tip is only a few inches in diameter. I hope it does host a damsel.

The smaller of my Damsels has accepted my anemone! Don't know for how long because I wasn't home today, but the Damsel is actively swimming through and around it.

Sounds good! I don't think they stay in anemones as they mature but they do when they are young.

I would, but I don't formerly own a camera. I have a family member with one, I'll try to see if I can borrow hers.
