I have this Silver Light Blueish Pavona. I typically see Orange and Greens, but this color is unusual. To me at least.

Have you guys seen a color like this?

i think i saw one like that at like reefready, but other than that youre the first ive seen with one in your tank.

i hate you dude. :D

you always manage to snag the top-o-the line goodies.

i swear every time i see somethin really special, its in your tank, or it shows up there in like 2 weeks

Actually,
Pavona are SPS. Which just shows you how useless the category is.
Very nice coral!

Matthew

The colors remind me of the Tyree blue chalice colors but I like the pavona's corallites. very very pretty :)!

This is just my opinion, but it looks to me as if you have a Lithophyllon. My guess would be Lithophyllon undulatum.

This is actually a member of the Fungiidae Family.

http://whelk.aims.gov.au/coralsearch/html/801-900/Species pages/876.htm

They are usually a little more fleshy than a Pavona and a lot less aggressive. They can grow pretty quickly and are great candidates for Aquaculture.

Randy. Thanks for the info. Really helpful.

Yah kinda looks like it huh? It does form flat......

"Characters: Colonies are encrusting or form flat laminae with lobed margins. There is usually no central corallite. Septo-costae are thin and exsert. Colour: Deep green or brown in the northern part of the range, dark blue with white corallite centres in the southern part."

dang!Beat me to the punch ;)
I concur with the litho id.

But Im not buyin that pavona is sps. LPS IMO, the sweepers on mine use to get just as long as the echinophyllia a good 2 inches. But I definately agree that the LPS SPS thing is way ridiculous with to many voids of grey; pavona being a good example.

I think the blue color is more common that actually getting a piece of litho itself though A.D ., accessable, but not common.

SPS is hobbyist slang Justin. The term is useless. In fact, Borneman points out Pavona points out how useless the term is in predicting coral hardiness. Its an SPS that is very hardy. There are several other examples too.
In the reverse case, Gonipora & Alevepora are total LPS that are difficult to keep.

Actually, I am certain that your coral is a Pavona, looks identical to the one I received from Chris T @ Reefermadness, the Unknown Pavona, except that one is silver. Similar to the Litho, but if you look closely at the Pavona and the ridges, they flow more than the litho, which has straighter lines (costa?) May want to do a trade with you someday. :)

You are certain because Chris @ Reefermadness said so?? No to be rude but if he knows it's a Pavona why can't they figure out what species? Most of the Pavona's are fairly distinguishable from each other. Unless you examine the skeleton it's all a crap shoot any way. Of the 14 Pavona species listed on the AIMS site none of them resemble the coral in the pic but it is hard to tell with just a photo

:lol2: Fate may have us all wrong, still early to tell as frag as it looks like three genera not just two, and maybe more...

Pavona, Lithophylon, and Leptoseris(some pretty spot on, like and identicle to the litho), but out of seeing blue litho's more frequently than pavona unknowns(which if this is, it would more than likely a Pavona explanulata:
http://www2.aims.gov.au/coralsearch/html/201-300/Species pages/292.htm
if anything IMO)
The only thing that comes consistantly closer to the litho in similarity to this is the leptoseris, scabra in particular:
http://www2.aims.gov.au/coralsearch/html/201-300/Species pages/230.htm
and for a stretch the hawaiiensis:
