Having an issue with my yellow sun coral

My yellow sun coral has not opened up completely for the last week now. It has been in the tank a year and has always had beautiful extension unless it has been bugged by something. Usually it has been a vermitted snail that was the culprit. I have examined the coral and can't find anything on it that would bother it EXCEPT.....maybe...the rock it is on has sprouted ball anemone's near the bottom. They are small and are not really in a place they would reach the coral. They are on the underneath of the rock as well. Could they still be the problem? The polyps of the coral do a peeking out kind of thing where they look like they are coming out and then they go back in. Last night I shone a light on them to have a look and they started coming out, so I was wondering if I could be missing something small that retracted with the light because when I shut off the light, the polyps went back in. I also have a rock cucumber in this rock that has been there a year. So I have to take into consideration not killing that with any treatment I can do. Any suggestions?

if you take it out and dip it a bit it might help - something mild like revive (non-iodine based).

maybe put it in another place with a different flow.

We took it out and removed a black spot that may have been a vermitted snail and then dipped it. It got soooooo stressed out it looked like it started losing flesh and it was sliming. The flesh repaired itself within a few hours and I was amazed. It still has not come out yet but I think it will be ok. These corals are soooo sensitive!!!!

Still not opening. I guess I have to just wait and see what happens. My black sun coral is open all the time. Go figure.

Last night I looked into the tank around 8 p.m. when it was the usual feeding time of my sun corals and low and behold, the yellow sun coral was out and it was bigger than before as in a few more polyps. Hmmmm, do they close up when they are growing? At any rate, he was fed. :bounce1:

Yes I do find they close up before new polyps spring up.

If it was fine for a year, then you have to think carefully about any changes you have made. Things can just die for no reason but it is rare.

Update on this sun coral. It is back to it's glorious state. Seems very happy and is all opened up. Now I am having a slight receding problem with my Dendro :( One polyp is turning white but the others are ok.
