Great pics! It takes me back to my Sept. '09 trip to Maui and Kauai. I was fortunate to go on three dive trips while at the islands. Here are a few pics of a big black longnose butterfly variant taken at Cathedrals II, off the eastern coast of Lanai:

Great photos! Wish I knew how to swim so that I can dive. If I snorkeled in this area, would I still be able to see some fish and corals?

Absolutely! Hawaii has some amazing snorkeling spots. You definitely don't need to be a diver to enjoy this underwater world.

Thanks for posting these pictures! I wish I would have known to look out for this beautiful butterfly. I'll have to remember this for my next trip!
