Hawaiian Flame Wrasse ?

So here's my dilemma, I originally bought 2 female flames wrasses with the hopes that the most dominant female would morph into a male. Everything was going smooth and one started showing signs of changing into a male and then my female died. My question is will the change take place absent a female or do I have to provide my poor incomplete phased wrasse an incentive to change. Will he complete the process on its own or not. If not does anybody know of any lfs locally that has or will order any female flames wrasses so that I may add another. Thanks for any help in trying to help my poor wrasse through puberty lmao!!!!

I heard from a friend that it can still morph on its own, but I'm not quite sure. I'm sure Ed from Blake's Aquaden is willing to order you one! I'm going to be ordering fish from him as well.

IME ... Odds are it will turn anyway... All fairies and flashers seem to turn male, with or without a female present!

Tony Vargas spoke about them specifically at HOF. He found that when a male flame wrasse was paired with a female he would try to mate with her. Then she would hide. He would want to mate again immediately and chase her down harassing her stressing her to death. He kept adding females and found that you need 5 females to each male to keep him from stressing them to death. The same is true with freshwater guppies. So that is probably why your female died. Hope that helps.

Lol Well in that case I will be buying my horny little half n half wrasse a flaming wrasses gone wild DVD and let him make the transition that way. Plus there are other female wrasses in my tank he can show off for one of them if he likes no way I'm getting a 5 deep swingers fish club for Mr. He-She lmao

There were quite a few comments after Tony said that about him wanting to live vicariously through his flame wrasse and that's the only reason he keeps them lol.

Here's a shot of the He-She in question, upon closer inspection judging by the color on his bottom fin I believe he is on his way to making the change. I will update this photo when the full transformation has completed.

Maybe its actually from Thailand there sure are a lot of LadyBoys there.... But I agree a fish has needs, how dare you impede his libido Franky!! This fish needs a wingman!!

And its such a PITA to find any females for most of the flashers.

Go for the harem franky! Most of what I read on flashers/fairy harems (in the wild) is one terminal male, 2 initial phase males and 3 or 4 females per harem.
