i have had many hawk fish in the past and just recently bought a long nose hawk. it did great for about 4-5 days and then dissapeared. i later found it dried up on the floor.....are these fish known to be jumpers? never had a hawk fish even come close to the top of the tank in the past until this one.

They are jumpers, but I'm with you. I have two firefish, a ywg, and (had) a yellow coris. None of them got anywhere near the top of the tank; if frightened, they went down instead of up.

Definitely a jumper. Mine managed to jump over a 4" tall rim I built around the tank. I didn't find him until he was dry and dead.

My Long nose loves to swim around the top of the water in my tank, he also likes to perch on the tops of my powerheads. I have heard that are big time jumpers.

yea my hawk loved to perch on top of my power heads as well. i just never heard about them being jumpers. thanks for the responses, i now know not to buy a long nose again...
