He had to go!

Why doesn't someone send a Stone Crab to go see Tim the Supermantis? I'm sure he would love to have one over for dinner!

Lambs?

Is this "Silence of the Lambs"??

I managed to get the stone crab out of the main tank and it went into the 3g mantis tank before I took vacation and when I came back the mantis is smasherless. Those 2 smashers are off and in front of his cave unless the mantis molted but I don't them on the mantis anymore and the stone crab hasn't been out.

I did just that when mine got around 3in in shell diameter. unfortunately, he did not survive the trip and never got to meat (pun intended) Tim.

Yeah, I followed that thread for a while and had hoped to hear the results of that encounter. Too bad he did not survive the transit. Tim will meet his match someday I'm sure.

Mine is still doing very well in the sump and becoming more agressive with each feeding. I wave a piece of krill or shrimp in front of him then move it from side to side in the sump with him chasing it the whole time.

Update: My stone crab molted again today and is at least 15-20% larger than he was yesterday. He's feeling a bit vulnerable with his soft shell and will not venture far enough from his cave so I can take a picture. Hopefully soon though.

He may not look much bigger in these pics, but he has grown quite a bit over the past three weeks. He's also turned into a master landscaper, digging large caves under the rocks in my sump. Aggressive little creatures!

If you happen to find one of these crabs in your TBS shipment, say a prayer or two and make sure your will is up to date. These are the meanest creatures on earth!

The good news is that the family is now afraid to venture into the tank room, preferring to view the tanks through the wall and (hopefully) remain relatively safe. My 19-year old son insists that the crab will soon break down the door though and refuses to let down his guard.

The bad news is that I have to be very careful when working in or around my sump as said crab is highly aggressive and quickly races toward me with claws fully extended as soon as he sees me. There have been a few close calls already but I can still count to 10 using my fingers, so all is well for now. Not sure how much longer that will be true though...

I expect him to molt again any day now and he will emerge as a newer, meaner crab and that is about 15-20% larger, but here is what he looks like today. Don't let the size fool you. He is one mean &^%$:

No fear at all...

And the new jail to (hopefully) keep him contained:

Just in case you think I'm exaggerating, I fed him a full mussel a couple of days ago. He ate the entire mussel by himself and here is all that he left for me to clean up:

I just found this post and was laughing out loud. I got one of these guys with my TBS rock and had decided it was the meanest nastiest thing I had ever come across. It started when he killed and started eating my flower anemone. I grabbed him and put him in an isolation container. Shorly after that I happen to catch a Gorilla crab. I was planning on taking both to the local fish store for trade so I place the Gorilla in the container with the Stone crab and the Stone crab very quickly tore the Gorilla into shreds. He then played football with his head by kicking it around and playing with it. I figured maybe it was because the Gorilla was a little smaller. A couple of days later I catch a large Gorilla that had started eating my Blue Tang. I figured this might be a match. I tossed him in with the Stone to see how things would go. Once again the Stone tore the Gorilla into pieces and started kicking his head around the container. I decided not to put him in the refugium because I had other bad boys down there already but not as bad as this dude. I took him up to Centreville Aquarium where he is currently for sale for $2.99. I told the guy who runs the place (Dave) that he was a very bad dude and that he should warn any potential buyer of such.

Yep, meanest little &*^% I've ever come across.

I know Dave. Great guy and he runs a pretty nice, albeit rather small shop. I'll have to stop by the store tomorrow on my way to Herndon. I'm not sure he knows just how bad these dudes are. How big was yours?

P.S. I dropped some excess chunks of xenia into the sump figuring it woudl take hold. Xenia is nasty smelling and apparently bad tasting since nothing I know of will eat it. The crab made a point out of taking each piece and rippiing it to shreds though! Did I mention that he is a mean *&^%?

I was showing a friend just how mean he is this evening. I took the plastic feeding stick and held it above his head. He grabbed the stick with both claws while holding onto two fist-sized pieces of LR with his rear legs. I pulled on the stick, lifting him and both pieces of LR several inches before he finally let go of the stick. I shoudl have some new pics to post soon.
