heat pad for emergency

I'll be heating my tank with gas and am considering using a 1000W heat pad under the tank for backup. It would draw about 9A, so a Ranco would be used for control. I'd also install a buzzer alarm to sound when the heat pad is on.

You guys see a problem with this?

You can heat a tank with natural gas? Good to know, as that's cheaper than electric...
Won't the heating pad get crushed by the tank? Plus, you could put uneven stresses on the bottom panel, and crack it. I am, however, a noob at this, so take what I say with a grain of salt.

would love to see how you heat your tank with gas , I was thinking of running some pex through my sump off the boiler with a mixing valve to temper the water to say 80 and wiring in a controller to the boiler control . but not sure about all that wiring .

For a big tank, natural gas heating can make sense.

I was considering putting the heat pad on the bottom of the top of the stand. Under the tank, but inside the stand. After a little more thought, I won't try a heat pad after all. I am not comfortable putting it against plywood, plus my tank is a wood epoxy job and I am also uncomfortable with what heat might do to the epoxy.

If you have an existing boiler, I think it would be pretty easy to heat your tank with it. Maybe a NC solenoid valve controlled by a Ranco. And maybe a NO solenoid valve controlled by another Ranco as a safety in case the tank temp got too high. It would be easy to wire a buzzer alarm to the safety solenoid. If you plumbed it right, you might not even need another pump. Make sure you use PEX with O2 barrier. That's critical.
