I have a 300 gallon aquarium and a 75 gallon aquarium

I live in a older house and heat with gas heat

I keep my house about 60 in the winter except for the living room

How many and what kind of heathers do I need for each tank

More than 1 per tank is preferred invade one fails

Titanium heating elements on an apex. 3X 500 Watters on the 300 and 300 X 2 on the 75. You'll be able to use one of the 300's as a back up on the 75 and one of the 500's on the 300 for back up. The titanium elements don't have thermostats on them and the chances of the apex failing is very slim. Very redundant.

My basement holds ~60-62f year round and have 3-300's on my 210. 2 of them are plenty to maintain 80*f easy and even a single 300 will hold it to 73-74*. On my 58 I have a pair of 150's, one will keep it at 80 going full tilt.

Do you have a brand recommendation on heater?

Thanks,

Jalli makes a 300, 500, and a 800 watt with a temp sensing shut off switch. You need a controller though. These on a reef keeper or apex would hold temps to +/- 1* with ease.

Are the jäger heaters any good

Yes but the thermostat's do go bad every once in awhile. With a titanium heater without a thermostat, there's no way it could stick on because the reef keeper or the apex controlls it.

I have a jager 250w (glass) in my overflow and a plastic (unbreakable) 250w in the sump. Both have thermostats but both are being controlled via Apex.

My preference is to use two heaters with internal thermostats. I do use my Apex to control both heaters (with slightly different set points) but also use the internal thermostat as a failsafe in case something were to go amiss with the Apex (heaters are set FALLBACK ON).
