Heater Placement?

Where is the best place to locate a couple of submersible heaters in my sump? I have a skimmer section, return and fuge, with the return line "T"eed off to the fuge with a ball valve.

I am thinking that I should put them in the return area (which has the most turnover). Anyone have some insight?

i've got one in my return, and one in my skimmer section. i don't know if it's "the best" but my temperature stays consistant.

Just make sure you don't put the heater where it will be exposed to air during water changes. I have made this mistake at least once before and it usually damages the heater even if it is titanium.

Hmm, how are you supposed to rig it to where it doesn't get exposed to air during a water change? Mine have a "do not submerge above this line" line, so I can't lay them horizontal. They are 15" heaters.

Just unplug when doing water change. I to have made the mistake of doing a water change without turning off the heater, so when a added some of the new water i here a cracking sound looked over and the hater was busted that bites
