heater preference

Which heater does everyone perfer Jalli,Finnex or Gen x all these are submersibles.I'm looking to upgrade my heaters so any info would be appreciated.

Based on the research that I did, Finnex seemed to be the best. I bought a Gen-X first and it didn't work straight out of the box. I thne ordered a finnex with controller and it works great- I would recomend going with multiple smaller heaters insted of one large one to help protect against boiling your tank in the case of a single heater malfunction. I learned that lesson the hard way....

It's always best to have some kind of backup control. Even 2 levels of controllers would work. i.e. one on a heater and then something like a ranco controlling that or it can get fancier than that with a neptune contoller turning on/off a heater with a controller. 2 smaller heaters accomplish the same for less though since even if one sticks, if small enough of a heater it will be limited in the amount of heat.

I was planning on getting a won pro for my 55 gallon, a 300 watt. I have a small one on my 10 gallon that has performed very well for me for about 5 months so far.

I have a 500 watt (don't ask me why I bought such a big one) but I use the controller from Finex and then double control it with my ac3. I just set the finex controller to a degree higher than my ac is set for. That way if the ac fails it would only go 1 degree hotter than I planned. I got my heater and the controller from eBay 2-3 years ago. That second link you posted from premium aquatics is the one I have with the exception that the heater is only 500 w vs. 800 in the pic. That's a good buy too. I think I paid that much a few years ago but I had to do 2 different auctions for the heater and controller.

I had a won pro that would do nothing but heat the water, it would not shut off at all even if I turned it all the way down.

Yep, me too...won't buy Won again either.

I'm convinced there is no such thing as a reliable heater. I've read all the stories about Won heaters cooking tanks, I've owed two one hasn't been a problem the past two years and the other lasted just over six months. I've also read about how great Finnex heaters are and had one cook my anemone tank. 20+ anemones at 115 degrees really smells bad by the way. My next heater is going to be a Finnex heater tube and a Ranco controller.

okay have a question about Finnex heaters

which one would you get?

or

I only need to raise my temp of 250 gallons 1-3° durring the winter. Not sure if I need a 300w or not. but that was the smallest I could find in the last link.

I'd stay away from the first one, that's the one that cooked my tank. PA told me that they have been having a lot of problems with them.

Hmmm. Got two heaters of the Won variety from someone who would never buy Won again....

BUT, I have them hooked up to a Jalli controller, and I check them every day--mounted them right up front. Neither is big enough to cook the tanks. Heaters are very temperamental!:D

Alright, I finally found my heater on the internet. I found out they don't make it anymore. SO I guess you can't buy it now. Anyways, I've had it for a year and a half almost. Works flawlessly (and I just jinxed myself).

I'm totally serious. Mine's actually 150 watts though.

Temperature doesn't fluctuate more than a degree. Plus, it's got a sweet orange light on it when it turns on.
