Heater stuck! quick help NEEDED ASAP!

Do exactly what youre doing. You dont want to do anything too drastic that will result in a sudden drop in temperature- that kind of swing could be just as dangerous, if not more so, than the original spike.

It got up to 92....Yikes:sad2: Its a nano so I was thinking of cooling it down 2 quick would be a bad thing also, so I'm trying to slowly take the temp down slowly. Thanks for the help btw!

you should invest in a heater that has auto shut off if it overheats. it definitely gives you piece of mind.

The heater is secondary. Go buy a controller! Even the lowest end Neptune or ACJr will prevent this extremely common disaster.

I've had that happen twice in one of my nanos. Temp got up to 94 and I lost several corals. Jager heaters are very reliable and decently priced. I've had one in use for over 7 years now and it's still working like a champ.

For total piece of mind get a ranco controller. Heaters almost always fail in the on position.

I use Jager heaters and even have one on my 125g that was purchased new in 1994 and still holds perfect temp. It is the only heater on that tank and no controller ever. A controller would have more then likely prevented that but a Jager heater can prevent it by itself.

I had my SPS tank wiped out from the heat. Albeit it wasn't from a faulty heater just a failed Capacitor on my A/c unit this past summer. Tank was over 90 for over a day before I got to it and rescued the rest of my livestock. Get a couple of Stealth heaters. I have had two in my tank for 4 years with no failures at all.

What do you have in your tank for fish/corals? And yes, get a Ranco controller. I set my heaters to the temp that I want and set the controller just slightly higher. If the heater sticks on the controller kicks off and keeps the tank from overheating.

Who sells a Ranco temp controller? Google led me to NON aquarium Ranco controllers.

From what I've seen, any of them will work. They are all the same basic unit, with maybe a different label and the wiring already done. The one I have is made by aqua logic that I bought used.

They are a bit more expensive than the generic ones that ETC sells.
