Heaters

I was just reading this thread: Marineland just ruined my life. Sad! :( Got me to thinking about mine. I was sitting here trying to remember what heaters I had gone with when I set up the tank and remembered they are Aqueon Pro 200's (anyone hear anything bad on these?). Honestly I found them in Petland off of George Dieter and liked that they were aluminum so did not do a whole lot of research beforehand. I have them set to a little above my code on the Apex which turns them on and off. I set them a little higher than code in case the Apex failed and left the outlet for the heaters in the on position. Anyways, just a thought of how fast things can get out of control when a malfunction happens and how crappy it is. I have read many post here on RC were people say that our tanks are always on the verge of collapse "“ maybe that is the challenge of the hobby?

You should look for the thread where it actually exploded and below up the ten gallon refuge and the door off the stand. It was crazy to see pics on that, but i think the company refunded them for the fish and coral that where lost.

I was once told or read that it is a good idea to replace your heat every year or ever other year. And to think how cheap they are it really is worth the peace of mind. Lucky i have not had any heaters stick on but have had several just dye on me which i am ok with. I know the Stealths i bought awhile ago has a life time warranty but i dont think it is worth it with all the issues they are having. Thanks

My understanding to Marinelands issues is that it is only a couple of models that were faulty. You may want to check because I did read they did have a national recall on them--they will replace the faulty one for the newest version was my understanding. And yes heaters can cause some pretty wicked damage.

When I started, my heater stuck and before you know it the water was at 100 degrees and climbing. I didnt have much in the system and lost everything. It's a good thing it wasn't fully stocked. It wasn't a Marineland product but did call the mfg of the heater about the issue and they over nighted one out.

The stealth Modes? If that is what you have you need to go take them to Pet smart or any other major company. They gave me store bucks ended up getting some new ones. If you send them to the company they will send you there glass ones

What is a reliable one?? I just bought some new ones and now i feel a small shock in the water when they turn on. I want something that i will never have to replace. This is the 4 heater i have bought this year

I have gotten that tingle also and traced it to a glass heater I was using in the old 90 system. Not the most pleasant sensation and, well, dangerous!!

BeanAnimal has a great article about Aquarium Heaters: What you need to know! with some good advice on usage and setup. I'm using two Aqueon Pro heaters and use the Apex to turn them on and off. So far can't really say anything bad about them after a little over 8 months of use. They are very similar to the old stealth heaters except they have an indicator light and electronic thermostat. From what I understand Marineland, Perfecto, Instant Ocean, Tetra, Jungle (and others) are all owned by United Pet group. Aqueon, Kent Marine, Oceanic, Coralife, and Zilla are all owned by Central Garden and Pet and operate under the Central Aquatics business division. From some blogs I gathered that the Aqueons are manufactured in Italy and could not find any negative comments on them. I've read a lot of recommendations for the Ebo Jager heater with a Ranco controller on RC also.

Wow! That is funny, but then, not really!! I have mine fully submerged and no problems. Where did you get them? Maybe you can take them back? Not sure at all on which Ebo Jager as I have never owned one but maybe search RC for some recommendations.

I filled it up in October and really have not used that much. Still over ¾ full. Have you checked for leaks with soapy water? I know that the gasket between the gauge and bottle sometimes leak prematurely and mine also leaked at the safety release valve when I first installed the system. Hopefully it was just low to begin with!
