Heaters

Looking to buy a couple of heaters this weekend. Was looking into Ebo Jager heaters. Checking some of the retail websites (forum sponsors) some indicated that since ehiem is now the maker they are no longer fully submersible. Other websites are saying that they are new and improved and fully submersible. What to believe? Would like one that is fully submersible. Maybe just go with Visa-therm then?

Thanks,
Duane

im using a visa-therm stealth heater, its excellent. completely submersible, just hide it behind some live rock and you wont have to worry about it or see it for the most part.

the only issue i had with it was the suction cups lost suction really fast, easily solved with a branch of tonga and some plastic pull ties. just pull tie the tonga branch to the buttom of the heater where the suction cups are (tighten the pull ties over the clasps for the suction cups so they arnt touching the actual heater) and set the branch in the sand (making sure the heater isnt touching the sand). problem solved.

this is from thier website:

Information: Ebo-Jager All New TS Series heaters are completely waterproof, submersible heaters perfect for freshwater or saltwater use. Heavy duty 2mm thick shock resistant Pyrex glass construction are twice as thick as most other heaters and far stronger. The tempearture is adjustable from 64°F and 94°F with an easy to adjust thermostat.

Also just went to the Ehiem website. They say submersible. On the Dr. F & S website they say the following:
The TS Automatic Aquarium Heaters by Jäger are produced with superior materials and expert craftmanship. Advanced sensor holds temperature steady! Features heavy-duty 2mm thick, shock-resistant Pyrex glass construction. Temperature adjustable from 64° to 90°F. Thermostat is accurate from ±0.5°. Six foot double insulated power cord and suction-cup attachment included. Submersible to water line on heater. Perfect for fresh or saltwater use.
Marineandreef website:
Ebo Jager Aquarium Heater Features:
Please note: Although this heater looks just like the Ebo heater that we've been selling for years, it is now made by Eheim and the instructions specify that the heater can only be submersed up to a line about 1/2" from the top of the unit.
Sent an email to Ehiem asking for clarification. If I get a response I will post it here..

Also went to saltwaterfish.com and this is what they said.
This heater is not completely submersible.

All Ebo-Jager aquarium heaters come with a 1 year warranty

I only use heaters that are controled by a remote thermocouple. IE no moving parts in heater to leak. Also no glass. I never put my hands in a tank that has a heater that may leak someday.

I agree w/Ihoo. I own to 250w heaters. one being a Ebo Jager which I've been useing for about 4 yrs, and the other being a Pro-heat IC Titanim Heater. Now the Ebo is not able to keep my tank at a constant temp, but remember it's 4 years old now. If your going to put it into a sump, I would go with a Pro-Heater. It's also easier to adjust the temp and you can't brake it!

i just got one of the visi-therm stealth heaters and i too like it a lot. I prefer it over my ebo jager (older one that IS submersible).

Plus drsfostersmith.com have the largest ones for under 20.

pc1blues,

I just bought one of these. Marine Depot's site said they are completely submersible, so I bought one. Then I get it and the instructions say to not submerse it below a certain line. I called Marine Depot and they told me it is completely submersible. The reason for the line and contrary instructions is because Enheim needs to get all new UL certifications. I called Enheim and they said the same thing. They tell me it is 100% submersible and it is the same unit Ebo Jager was producing before they were bought by Enheim. So, mine is compeltely under water at the bottom of my sump and working fine.

I have used a lot of different heaters, and short of buying a good titanium heater (this would exclude the Won Brothers' heaters), the only heater I would buy is the All Glass Aquarium heaters. I have around 15 of the AGA heaters, and I have had one fail (left on sticking out of water for 2 days). The failed heater contaminated nothing, caused no shorts, and was instantly replaced at the store I purchased it at with no questions asked (lifetime warranty > all).

I like the old jebo's myself . I have a via aqua titanium and won brothers the won brothers temp controller went out with in a year. But still does its job when used with a external controller.

The only heater I wont touch is a tronic . Luckily the power cord also fried killing power to the unit or I would have lit up like a billboard.

I have had 2 won brothers and they both went out within about 6 months. They replaced them but I don't trust it. Should have seen my face with the digital display read something like 188 degrees...and the water was at about 74.

yeah thats what mine is like except it reads 33 when its 80  Still works great I just use my aquacontroller to turn it on and off .

Still not high on my recomended list tho

In my brief time, I inherited a tronic with my 70g tank. It broke within 6 months. I've got the visitherm stealths--3 of them, so far so good.

I have a Jager heater (non-Ebo), been running it for 2 years now. Quite accurate and dependable. *knocks on wood*

It's hard to find an Ebo-Jager heater now-a-days. Most of them are just 'Jager'.

Oh, and yes, they are submersible; but down to the line near the top of the unit. NOT FULLY SUBMERSIBLE.

My $0.02 worth! ;)
