Heating Question

Hi reefers!

So I have a few questions about heating the tank.

Do you guys use a controller to control the temperature in the tank?
If not, how do you keep your temperature stable?
What brand of heater is considered reliable for SPS?

The reason why I ask is that I have an EBO Jaeger and it doesn't seem to be keeping my temperature stable, which concerns me because I am trying to raise SPS.

Thanks in advance!

Most every successful SPS tank owner uses a digital controller to keep temperature spot on. Also, it's not really the brand of heater, it's the redundancy. I would rather trust my tank to four cheaper heaters, than one "reliable" one.

As for stability of temperature, heaters are a must... but chillers are also essential to keep your temperature rock solid.

If I were you, I'd go with a fairly cheap controller to keep your temperature spot on. Go with the ReefKeeper Lite. It's about $100 and comes with everything you need.

I tried many different submersable heaters. None of them are very accurate. Get yourself a controller, it is well worth it. Turn youre heaters to max heat and have the controller turn them on when needed.

Temperature controllers are a must - either an independent temperature controller or off of a full system controller like a Reef Keeper. Two smaller heaters on a reliable controller will give you the most stable temps. Typical aquarium heaters on their own just always seem to disappoint no matter the brand
