Heavy tank on Foam question?

Hopefully in the near future I will be installing a custom 300g aquarium built by miracles.
This tank will be 8ft. long and is going inbetween two walls 8ft6in apart.
I will be placing foam underneath.For the final placement of the this tank,it will have to slide across top of foam.
The approx.weight of this tank is 650lbs.
Will this tank slide on the foam or will it just digg into it and cause a mess.
I don't want to find out the day of movement if possible....

I had the same problem when I installed my 999 lb acrylic tank onto the stand. I decided to use a 1/4" piece of melamine plywood on top of the foam. The tank slid on just fine and I still have the 1/2" foam in perfect shape.

I used some spray adhesive to hold the foam down. Tank slid on the foam just fine.

You could forego the foam and melamine altogether and use Homasote. I just finished putting my custom Coast to Coast Aquariums tank on my stand and they recommended I drill Homasote to the 3/4" plywood top instead of foam.

Homasote is a spongy but durable sheet good used for sound dampening. You can find it in the insulation aisle at Home Depot where you would find foam as well. Just make sure you countersink all the screws to account for the tank settling and you'll be good to go!:thumbsup:

I just recently had a 600 Gallon DT (96"X48"X30") delivered and put foam in place on stand and it held fine. Slid right across it without any digging. It was acrylic so we're talking a few hundred pounds, not the weight of a glass tank it's size!
