I am new and I have just set up a 24 gallon Nano. Is there anything "SPECIAL" I need to do or beware of while getting this tank ready for sea horse's? I really don't know anything about caring for horse's but I will learn:)

My experience in this hobyy is a little over 2 years and the last year has been spent on reef's. I have taken down my reef because I have come to the realization that I do not have the room (no basment) to do the reef tank the way I really want.....

Thank you in advance!!!!!

My advice is to go do research online and find out how to set up and care for seahorses asap. Seahorse.com has a lot of good beginner guids that were very helpful to me...

I would keep an eye on the temp. with the nano cubes. they tend to run a little warm and seahorses do better in temps low to mid 70's . ( the only problems I have had with my sea horses has been when temps have climbed over 76 )

do a little research before getting them and you will be fine .IMO they are easier to keep than a reef , but very different . I am a CMAS member as well and would be glad to help out where I can . I love these guys , as I am sure you will too.

I have noticied my Nano is warm so I am guessing in need to figure out a way to cool this thing down beause I am in the 80's now and its only the second day....Any ideas (inexpensiveideas)

The only innexpensive thing i could think of would be a fan, but if youre consistantly in the 80's im not sure that this would work...

well the tank has only been up for 2 days so I am sure I will make it through the winter with no problems because the tank is staying at room temp. (I hate AC :)

Well if your not going to get a chiller, i would HIGHLY suggest getting a clip on fan, or computer fan that would blow accross the top of the water. It can lower the temp about 5 degrees, but will cause a lot of evaporation.

I am actually thinking about turning one of the fans in the hood upside down so there is a circulation happening ....which I know will cause some evaporation but shouldnt be as bad as my 125 was :)

Buy some pods - reed mariculture is a good company. Add them before you get your horses so they have time to develope an established population (2 to 3 weeks). My horses spend their days and nights hunting pods, but they still love their mysis.
