Hello from a Newbie

Hello everyone, I just wanted to introduce myself. I have had FW tanks for most of my life, ever since I was about 10 years old. I have also had roommates that were into reefing and I have often helped with the hobby in the past. I have been lurking around the site for a few months doing as much research as possible. I eventually want to have a big beautiful reef tank like everyone else. I am currently researching exactly what I want to do; also I am a big DIYer so I am looking forward to the construction. In the meantime, I have a 12 gallon eclipse tank that has been sitting around the house for a while. I am in the process of setting it up so that I can get a feel for my own saltwater setup. I’m sure I will be asking a lot of dumb questions over the next few days about how much rock, sand, fish, etc. Eventually I will graduate up to something a little larger. Thanks for all the great info!

[welcome]

if you can get the chemistry down on a 12 gal. tank then you will have no prob. keeping a larger tank :D good luck and don't forget to take pics.

It will definitely be a learning experience, but that is the point. The good thing is I will probably set it FOWLR. I know better than to try corrals or anything right off the bat. That will come later.

Fowlr is actually considerably more difficult to maintain than a reef with simple corals. It's a good learning experience though. I learned to QT stuff, and not to add fish too quickly to a tank. One fish a month is about right, but it sounded sooooo slow to me at first. It's not. Go slow and you'll be rewarded.

Welcome, and don't be at all shy about asking questions in general forums, too. Everybody's glad to give an opinion on almost anything.
