Hello
My name is Chris and I'm fairly new to saltwater. I started my tank
about 10 weeks ago and all is going well. I thought I would join a
chat forum seeing none of my friends are really into this. It would be
nice to bounce ideas around and hear others advice from time to time.
Any how I have a 300 gallon display tank with a 115 gallon sump. This
is my first tank but so far I must say I have been lucky and haven't had
any real problems. I plan on keeping a pretty piecefull community tank with
coral. I have in the tank :

1 naso tang
1 blue hippo
1 yellow tang
1 copperband butterfly
1 six line wrasse
1 leopard wrasse
1 ban cardinal
1 Madeline goby (I have a ton of Copepods)
2 damsels
2 pairs of clowns
1 red star fish
300 pounds live sand
300 pounds live rock
Plus your typical clean up crew
(Snails,crabs, cleaner shrimp ect....)
Along with a dozen or so pieces of coral
(Torch, mushroom, daisies, lipo, ect..)

I am thinking of adding a powder brown tang
And a flame angel also. Little nervous about the
angel tho. Any how hope this forum is nice way to
talk with others of the same interest.
Take care

Looks like you're off to a good start. The only existing fish I would watch out for when adding your pbrt and rfa is the 6-line. They tend to be very aggressive towards later fish additions - of any size!

Be careful adding the Powder Brown Tang. Make sure thats the Tang you want to keep because if you wont be able to put a Powder Blue, Achilles, or any other "Designer Tang" in there with that Powder Brown.
I made the mistake of adding a Powder Blue when I first started many years ago and he got beat up really bad by the Powder Brown.

Took me 10 years to work up to a tank that big - you've done it in 10 weeks. You have some challenging animals in the tank, and given its age, and existing population, it might be wise to give the system a chance to breathe a bit. Flame Angels can be fine; but they can also be a problem. It's often just a roll of the dice. The Powder Brown is a very nice fish, but it is extremely susceptible to parasites, so if you get one, and are not currently running new fish through QT, that would be a good time to start.

+1. It's very tempting to add all the fish one likes as quickly as possible. Slowing down generally is a wise course of action.

I agree, Im done adding fish for a while. At least a few months. I dont plan on having more then 20 fish total anyhow. I do QT new fish, as for the 25 gallone tank that I use for this I have copepods growing in it for the time being. I have a large sump (115 g) with refuge in it for copepods. I have bought some copepods to get started. I just picked up the manderine a couple of days ago. I do see what you are saying that it is a little early for a manderine as they say wait at least six months. But he ate pellets and brine at the lfs and looking at all the copepods all over my tank I fealt good about adding the guy.
I have a question for those of you with larger aquiriums. I have gfo reactor but dont have a calcium reactor. I have just been adding dosses of it. Is it worth getting a calcium reactor and are the touchy to get working right? Also what is a good brand and size for me?
Thanks
