Hello

Here is a link to the consumer confidince report for the local water supplys. It shows the results of thier testing. And While I am by far not an advocate of of believeing in our goverments truths.
I have know someone that works for the company that does the water testing, and he says these reports were actually posted by his company, not a goverment agency.
So I have faith in these reports.

i have not gotten my TDS meter in yet, but from a few years ago the TDS was around 330ish, i will get a up to date and accurate reading when mine comes in the mail. personally i prefer lab quality water with the only TDS comming from my salt mix. to each his own, i have used tapwater and ro/di, and i learned my lesson, no more bubble algae no more hair algae, just a healthy tank. thats my preference, if you guys like the tap more power to ya ;)

I will get some readings what our tap TDS is today, and post the results.

i love this part of the report.

Contaminants that may be present in source water include:
• Microbial contaminants, such as viruses and bacteria, which may come from sewage treatment
plants, septic systems, agricultural livestock operations, and wildlife.
• Inorganic contaminants, such as salts and metals, which can be naturally-occurring or result from
urban stormwater runoff, industrial or domestic wastewater discharges, oil and gas production,
mining, or farming.
• Pesticides and herbicides which may come from a variety of sources such as agriculture, urban
stormwater runoff, and residential uses.
• Organic chemical contaminants, including synthetic and volatile organic chemicals, which are
byproducts of industrial processes and petroleum production, and can also come from gas
stations, urban stormwater runoff, agricultural application, and septic systems.
• Radioactive contaminants which can be naturally-occurring or be the result of oil and gas
production and mining activities.

Well, my bubble algae came from another source.....a known source...or I guess I could say known scourge....

Never had hair algae problems in my tank, but I will agree that the possible cause of my cyano was most likely useing tap water to top off, but after a few days of doseing with erythomyacin I haven't had an outbreak of it in a long time.

I agree, I would go with cleaner water if I could afford the equipment to do so, but currently I have too many hobbies to allow me to buy a good RO/DI unit and keep it maintained.
If I had problems from useing tap water, I would probablly invest in one.

i hear ya man, if you could even swing like 80 bones, that would get ya a nice ro unit, which will get the tds down to 4-6. but i understand about money probs cause of too many hobbies etc. i'm going to order one from these guys next week, if i can swing it of course.

RO/DI

hmmm, $80 bucks for an RO/DI unit when I haven't had any real problems to date with the local water....or $80 bucks into the firebird I am trying to get put back together before the baby comes......ummmm, firebird first! Otherwise it will never get done.

I understand the priorities... However, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure certain pertains to undesirable algae growth. If you aren't running a phosphate reactor, i would consider that upgrade at least but by the time you get a reactor, pump, and media, you're about $80 into it too. Hopefully you might have spare parts or are already running one.

hey brian, my ro/di unit will be here friday. and im moving into my house next week. so my tank will be startin then, and you are welcome to use some of my ro water if you have a way to transport it, you just have a 55 gllon tank, is that right? anyway yeah, i'll help ya out if you want the lab quality zero TDS water, it's worth it and you WILL see results by using it.

The only results I need right now is something that will eat my current bubble algae....it seems to be my only real pest.....

yup, tried emeralds and niether one touched it, then one of my fish killed them <still trying to get rid of that fish> So I thought I would try a little tought crab and got a couple sally lite foots, they don't touch it either, but the fish can't kill them....
