Hi. I bought my first acan frag about 10 days ago. It has 3 large heads and 2 small ones. I followed all the usual procedures to get it ready for my tank before placing it. I received it on a small disc which I epoxied directly to a bit of live rock. The frag/rock is placed on the sand bed so the frag itself is about 3 inches off the sand. The water movement is good in the area but not excessive.
The heads all opened fully within a day of placing. On day 3 and 4 I fed each directly with 1 mysis each....I know that's not a lot but early days so I didn't want to overdo things. I didn't feed directly for the next 4 or so days.
My concern now is that the heads have not opened for the last 3 or 4 days. After looking so healthy and feeding why would it now close up?
For lighting I am running 3x150w 14000K MH's with 6 actinic 24w PC's. I thought perhaps the light was too strong so for the last 2 days I screened the area over the acan using a square of ply resting on the tank covers so the area is 'in shade', it is bright but not direct light. It has made no difference.
My tank details are:
66x24x24 inches with a 48x18x12 sump. Sand bed about 2 - 4 iches deep in drifts.
Salinity 1.025. Ca 410, Mg 1420, Alk 8.3, Sr 12, Temp 24 - 25 C, pH 8.3, PO4 undetectable, NO3 about 5 (I struggle with those colour match cards).
Any help and advice would be really great. Thanks.
