HELP! Anthias with possible internal parasites

Hi,

My Anthias is acting very strange for the past 4-5 days. I noticed that he was not coming out as much about 5 days ago and have been monitoring him ever since.

It has been pooping a lot, but it is mostly white & stringy and I noticed it is sticking around with the fish for quite some time.

I did some research and came to the conclusion that it is some sort of internal parasite that may be the problem.

What can I do to treat this fish? I have QT setup, but getting the fish out of the DT is going to be next to impossible. Is there anything that I can do?

Also how long do I have before this becomes a serious problem and kills the fish? I noticed that it is not eating at all. In fact when I fed flake food today which it LOVES, all it did was open his mouth real big about 5 times and swam away. :(

Thanks,

Scott

You could try Prazipro or medicated pellets with a dewormer in them (not very useful with a fish that's stopped eating though). Many people have successfully treated their reef tanks with prazi with no problems and it seems to be effective against the more common internal parasites. Without knowing the parasite you are dealing with and how long the fish has been infected you can't really say how long the fish has. Its never a good sign when they stop eating though, so I'd deal with this sooner rather than later.

Hi, i just spoke with a owner of a LFS and they recommend Metronidazole? I mentioned Prazi he said that is mostly for Fluke treatment?

I found a product called Gel-Tek, has anyone had any success using this product?

Thanks,

Scott
