help anyone? Newbie looking for supplies.

Do you have a hole on top of the drain cap? If not, I would add one, 1/4"ish, then add a piece of 1/4" airline tube that goes down into the hole. Something like this...

Then let it run for a few days. It should start to settle down, and it may need some fine tuning after it's run for a bit.

i have something like this

my own idea of how to control the size of the hole using a slit on the cap instead of a hole. This allows adjusting the size by simply sliding the cap higher or lower on the pipe, but.... from what Everyone is saying, the hole on the top sounds like the way to go. so im going to re do that. my issue is the bubble catch on the sump. the waterfall section of it is loud as hell.

aside from that my next order of business is getting new lightbulbs. cant grow anything without that.,
i was thinking of going with something like (Blue +, Aquablue Special, Purple +, Blue +) from .

May I suggest (Coral Plus+ Aqua Blue Special+ Actinic/Blue+ Coral Plus) for a balanced Coral growth and Blue hue look... I found the Purple to be useless in a similar set up I had a while back- The purple gave my tank a pinkish/red look that almost washed out every other bulb I had in my quad fixture :(

thanx for the heads up. ill keep that in mind. do you know if fishie sells them? maybe they will show me how it will look before i waste my money.

I was checking to see if I still had that purple bulb sitting around but I hated it so much I must have smashed it haha

In memory on my freshwater 45 that was so heartbroken it broke on me. Hope to have some nice results with my new saltwater.

okay so i have a few problems with my tank...

Fist off; thanx to David I was able to find out were my biggest problem with the sound was coming from. From what he pointed out it seams to be a 90° elbow at the bottom of my drain pipe, creating a waterfall effect. Im thinking the solution is 2x 45° angels or a flexible hose as he recommended.
I want to know if anyone else has had this problem and how you were able to solve it?

Second; The mag 12 I have as a return pipe is so strong that I have to restrict the pipe by about 70-90% or it will drain the sump faster than the sump fills and flows to the pump. I would love to run the pump with at most a 30-40% restriction so I dont need to use extra powerheads.
Any ideas how I can do that?
Or how it can pump out more water than it can take in?

Heres a picture of the 90° elbow just cause im working on labor day with nothing to do....

Have you tried a 90° angle at the overflow box? You may need to get a smaller diameter 90°, street 90° or make modifications to a 90° but it will slow down the flow at the top allowing the bottom 90° to catch up. If that doesn't work then you may need to make that bottom 90° look more like a 45° but whichever route you take try the easier things first before making any cuts :)

Thank you CReyes350 as you recommended i did try making a 90° on the overflow box but i have a limited space as we talked. i was able to get a pipe cut at a 45° and it did help but its still really loud. I like how quiet yours were. Ill take some time and try again latter.

Okay so I've been doing some research on dossing 2 PART. From what I've found it seams rater easy. Thanx to CReyes350 I started looking into Kalkwasser, and just though I would share a few articles I though were interesting. I'm hoping to get some pictures updated with the new tank up and running with my new corals and fish. Speaking of livestock I want to thank David520 for all the corals thus far, miguelp19 for the Ocellaris Clownfish, and CReyes350, and EmeraldReef86 for the corals we plan on trading/buying soon.

Looking good man, I'm happier without kalk these days. It's easier to keep things stable with just two part and I find corals respond better to stable Alk more than anything.

No problem Fernando! Im glad to be part of your progress on your aquarium. Those mocha clowns are super hardy and a beautiful strain of clowns, they're gonna do great in your tank.

Thank you, yes miguelp19, those mochas are very nice and i have no problems feeding them and they have already started training me. They will go to the surface and snap whenever they want food. aquaph8 youll have to tell me what you do. i'm taking bits of information from everyone i've talk to and trying to find whats going to work for me best. and as promised heres a tank update. again id have nothing without you guys. thank you all. the only thing ive bough from a store was lights and one frag.
