Help! Brown Jelly

Ohio

New member
I just lost a 40 head frogspawn in 2 day to what I think is brown jelly. :( I don't understand, nothing new has been added for months.

Ultimately, I need help to save my other LPS. My orange/blue torch just started showing signs of it. Do I use coral rx or iodine dip? How long should I dip? Will I need to quarantine afterwards? I don't have a quarantine set up right now. So if I have to set it up there will be no biologic filter.

Is the disease present in the water or just on affected coral? I really want to save what is left in my tank.

Parameters
Lighting: Led AI Sol
Alk: 8.2
Calc: 415
Mag: 1320
Ammonia: 0
Salinity: 1.026

I think that is everything.

Hate to say it what ever coral gets that condition is most likely a goner. If possible I would remove the entire coral or if its another branching type cut of the heads that are affected and hope for the best.

It can spread from coral to coral fast so I would remove as much of the flesh that you can before removal.

After doing some internet research, I am certain that it is brown jelly. I was prepared to suction and dip in Lugois but called my LFS and he felt Revive would have better results than Iodine. So I followed that advise and dipped in Revive instead. I hope that I made the right call there.

I turned up the flow and will watch it closely today, siphon as needed and dip it again tomorrow. The torch was an expensive one and hard to find. I really hope that I don't lose it. Based on my frogspawn's demise, I will know in a day or so.

Unfortunately, I do not have any pictures. I should have taken some of my frogspawn, there is no question as to the culprit. But it is dead and gone and I did not see your request until after I dipped the torch.

i had a frogspawn that got brown jelly and I removed it from my tank, took a toothbrush and brushed off the brown jelly and then rinsed the frogspawn. I then dipped it in revive (which I do with all my coral before going into the DT) and today it is doing great. Good luck and hope it all works out for you.

I know what caused this outbreak and in an effort to help others, I will let you all know my mistake. I have not added anything to my tank in over 6 months. Last week, my tank looked great. I had a frogspawn with 70+ heads that needed split and moved. So, I simply broke it into 3 pieces and placed them in other areas in my tank. I did not dip them to ensure proper healing. That apparently was a big mistake! Had it been any other coral where I had to cut the flesh to frag, I would have automatically dipped in Revive but I thought the frogspawn was fine since I did not break though the flesh. Lesson learned the hard way. Always dip after fragging or if a coral breaks!

Every coral i purchase they all get dipped in revive for good 2-3 mins just to kill off pest & other unwanted stop.

I dip every new coral that goes into my tank. This was something I have had for years and grew to 70+ plus heads from just 2 heads.
