HELP Building Quarantine Tanks for my 375GL tank

luamada

Love saltwater fishes...
I am excite to start my quarantine tanks...1- 55G 1- 90 G and 1- 72G so I will post here the progress and the pictures of each one as they go... I already ordered my tank 375G and it will take a few months... getting all the ideas that I can get... so here are some of the questions... I think I will drill all the tanks (the 72 is already drilled)... so I will need kits to plumb it... so excited with the new set up (55G) which is already cycling some of the rocks for the display tank DT.
Do I need a LED the same as I will have in the DT in the quarantines? I figured I will cycle the rocks on the quarantines and move them to the DT then get the fishes that I want for the quarantine... any ideas about that>??
:rollface::wavehand::spin1:
thank you

Are you using all three to QT fish only or corals?

You don't need light at all for your fish QT, but if you want to put a simple LED or fluorescent light, that's up to you. You also don't need to drill the tanks. You're good with a simple HOB filter, heater, PVC pipes or flower pots for hiding, and a small power head (but not mandatory).

I personally would try selling all three tanks and order one or two custom longer acrylic tanks.

This is what I'm doing with my setup:
I'm ordering a custom acrylic tank, 72x15x12 (56 gallons), with removable partitions in case I need to separate fish. And if you need to house larger fish like tangs, then just remove the partitions!

If you don't want to order a custom tank, find a 100 gallon long aquarium (72x18x17) and use egg grates as partitions if necessary.

Hope this helps! :)

I think you are doing just fine with the tanks you have but agree you don't need to drill. You can use simple air and GAC filters with a bit of sponge in them for biological filtration. Start the sponges in your display tank's sump to build up a bacterial load and then transfer to your quarantine tank. If you're using copper or other medications in your quarantine tank don't put the sponges back into your display system. Keep the two types of system totally separate.

Tanks not being used for fish quarantine can be used for coral quarantine. When you don't need a quarantine system you can use one as a frag tank and another for a hospital tank, just in case, while the third one can be kept spare for quarantining the impulse fish buy that you never expected.

Thank you guys. My display tank is full of aptasia so I cannot wait to get it down. A little update: I passed the cycling stages and it is finally 0000 :-) very excited. My nitrate still on 15:(
I did my first water change after 22 days of cycle and nitrate changed to between 10 and 15. Per Red Sea testing kit. Phosphate is down to .01 :( even with the reactor).
I also added a small cleaning guys 3 shrimps, 3 snails, 3 emerald crabs. And my boyfriend gave me an anemone. I know too soon:/ I guess he had the urge and did not resist it:/ now I am concerned with the well being of the anemone. Pray for it to survive. But I have no ammonia for about a week and a half and the. Umber are not too bad. I am not sure an anemone can deal with nitrate at all:-/ any ideas? Also I have a LED lights but it not a fence one. It does have a lightening capability. Really cool. I cannot wait for my Radion to come in. Imagine if I had so much fun with a little LED that was 180$ with the Radion PRO will be funnnnnnn. I will keep you guys posted. TANK is ordered and so is the cabinet. The skimmer is out of stock. The sump I need to wait to we the cabinet first. Excited:))
