Anyone have idea's or willing to help me catch 2 engineer Goby's from my 100g reef tank? They are about 8" long and driving my nut's!

Eeesh....all I can say is goodluck. As I know from the ones I've had previously....they don't fully leave their burrows. How long are they? Maybe you can pull off a fishtrap partially buried in sand at one of their exits with food at the other end.

They are about 8" or so now, they do come out to eat, but like you said, they never seem to fully come out of their hiding places. They have take over the whole rock section of my tank, they cruise from one side to the other. Anyone have a fish trap I can borrow to try this out?

When I was training my old Mandarin to eat frozen food I noticed my engineer was the most likely to go into the "food house". If your's are like mine then I'll bet it would be easy to catch them in a 2l bottle filled with live brine or something equally "tasty".

Good luck.

I somewhat had to partially move rocks around to catch mines before. I had them grow to 8-10" before. They were making some many tunnels that some rocks were beggining to fall/topple due to all the digging.

Thanks everyone. I'll try to get a 2l bottle and try that trick. As far as tunneling and moving the rocks. Yeah they helped settle all my rocks. Everything is about 2 inches lower in the tank now, but very solid.

Dyngoe is right on the money. I trapped mine a year or so ago, but with a 12oz bottle. When the lights were turned off, I grabbed/removed the bottle and transferred him to another tank.

When I removed mine I got a very very small flyfishing fly like a 24 or 26 hook size, debarbed the hook, tied it to some fishing line, put a piece of food on the hook and

..... FISH ON....

removed the hook and the he was fine, a little ****ed, but fine.

Ya know that might be the way to go. Little more stress on the fish, but those guys try to eat almost anything so it would be the fastest.
