Help choosing tankmates

bristle

Hi,

Someone I know has a 150g aquarium (FOWLR at the moment, but I'd like to keep some coral options open) and they've asked me to choose some fish (5 or so) to add to their existing fish.

So far, they have

1 - tomato clown (safe to add another?)
1 - yellow tang (safe to add more?)
1 - sailfin tang
1 - large damsel
1 - 8" wrasse, blue and green in colour but unknown variety to me

Are some wrasses invertebrate safe or are the larger ones known to eat shrimp etc? Any fish I should not look for?

Thanks.

tomato clown.. it depends on the temperment of the current tomato clown...be advised tomatos get mean ..speaking from experience of my pair

tangs.. personaly i think your tanged out in a 150g but if you do add another tang i would do something from a diffrent geno than the yellow/sailfin

wrasses..some are invert safe and some are not..and there are somany wrasses you would have to research them

some possible suggestions

one of the hardy butterflys
drawf angel
large angel..one of the smaller species
trigger fish..one of the smaller species

now if your planning on corals in the future you will need to research the fish you want with capatability with the types of corals you want and ask for rc members exeperinces with a certain fish and a certain coral

some suggestions

The blue-green wrasse might be a lunar wrasse? It has distinctive markings on its face to make it easily identifiable. As for a wrasse that is invert friendly, I've read that fairy wrasses can coexist with them--mostly sessile (attached to the substrate) inverts. I really like Hawaiian Flame Fairy Wrasse because of their beautiful color. I've heard accounts of wrasses initially fighting when introduced to a tank though so be careful on how you introduce.

In reply to the recommendation of a trigger fish: they are invert friendly. Their distinct mouths are used to crush shells. A TFH Q&A said a smaller trigger (such as a Blue Jaw Trigger) could be reef/invert safe but after asking several hobbyists they all shot down that idea. Also, at my work a juvenile Niger Trigger tore up a Yellow Corise Wrasse within two days. Granted its a retail chain with small tanks but it still should be taken into consideration. Just do some research and you'll figure it out.
